Recruiting Report: Nate Lacey (2020)
Saying that Nate Lacey stole the show at last month’s Maryland Top 250 Expo would be an understatement. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound unsigned senior asserted himself consistently throughout the day. Lacey constantly overpowered his opponents. His effort was commendable and so was his performance.
A downhill-type guard who aggressively carves out a path to the rim, Lacey understands when he’s covered and is able to quickly determine where the ball needs to go in those scenarios. Passing happens to be one of the things he does exceptionally well.
“I do a lot of things that you won’t see on the stat sheet,” Lacey said during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
“Hockey assists. Making the extra pass. Hustle plays, diving on the floor. The small things that really matter in games.”
With over a dozen college coaches in attendance, Lacey’s stock is sure to continue its rise moving forward. Right now, Penn State Harrisburg and Johnson C. Smith are the two schools recruiting him hardest. Lacey has heard from numerous division two and three programs since the event, but it wouldn’t come to a surprise if a D1 program came in late.
“I’m looking at PG schools as well,” Lacey told Prep Hoops. “Just in case I don’t like all of my options at the end of the year.”
What factors are important to Lacey when considering schools?
“A wise man once told me: Don’t go to a school because it’s a good basketball school. Go to a school because its a good academic school. It’s a 40-year plan, not a 4-year plan.”
Nate Lacey is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-50 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2020 class, click here.
