The 6’8″, 250-pounder is fresh off a solid junior season and is currently drawing looks from Division III programs. Baruch College and Vassar College are both showing strong interest in his game saying they like his presence in the paint and his ability to stretch the floor.
Cecol touched on his past season, summer session and goals for his senior campaign.
“The main thing I believe I matured the most this past season was my confidence in my capabilities. As the summer went on I saw myself increasing my numbers by doing simple things and making the right plays,” Cecol told Prep Hoops. “I believe I was able to change myself from being just a shooter to more of an inside presence offensively and defensively. I look forward to keep growing in my last season with Belen and expanding my game even more.”
He dedicated this summer to playing in front of college coaches at various camps. He attended the Brown University camp and then earned an invite to the Academic Super Bowl in Los Angels as well as the Hoop Group Elite Camp in East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Cecol finished the summer playing for Florida Gold Coast in the Peach State tournament.
In terms of his top strengths, he pointed to his postgame and jumper, calling them his go to’s.
“Currently, I am working on perfecting my touch around the rim and becoming even more confident in my shot,” he said. “The biggest area of focus for me is my body. Many coaches have said they have loved my game but my physical abilities have limited me. I have worked on increasing my stamina as well as becoming quicker on my feet and stronger to take harder hits.”
Cecol says he has learned a ton while playing for Belen Jesuit.
“We share the ball a lot and we are always in tune with each other,” he said. “This has taught me to stay true to who I am and realize what my strengths are and to take advantage of those strengths. I have learned what it means to be a good teammate and to look after one another and knowing what their strengths are to help them become better basketball players as well.”
What Cecol alluded to is exactly what he needs to get better for more colleges to look at him. He has a good frame, but needs to fill out in his upper body and continue to be more aggressive. A bigger body who can shoot at a solid clip, Cecol knows what he must work on and that should motivate him plenty during his senior year to earn more college attention.
