At Prep Hoops Ohio we have watched Eli many times, including just a month ago. We will watch him this winter a bunch more, as well. We have a firm grip of who he is as a player and the direction he is heading.
Burke is a quick guard that goes a ton of his damage at the rim, but other parts of his game are coming around. Athletic ability allows him to play above the rim, as he’s a big time athlete for the Nubians. Lately the stud guard has picked up new interest, so we caught up with him.
Interview:
From last season to this season, where do you think you’ll improve the most?
I think i’ll improve the most with my consistency night in and night out.
What part of your game did you improve the most during AAU?
I improved my jumpshot amd athleticism, as well as controlling the pace of the game.
What’s the latest recruiting interest you’ve had?
My latest recruitment interest has been schools in the MAC, also a couple schools on the west coast. (Division ll’s)
In your opinion, what’s the best part of your game right now?
The ability to turn defensive stops in to points for my team.
What do you think you need to work on the most right now?
I think I mostly need to work on shooting off the dribble from three point range.
What are your goals for this coming season?
My goals are to win the City Championship then win states in D3. My individual goals are first team all-city, district and state.
What’s it like playing with another talented guard in the backcourt like Cali Davis?
Its good playing with Cali, he has the same defensive work ethic as me. Offensively we bounce off of each other’s energy, he’s a knockdown shooter and i like to drive, so i’ll drive to draw the defense and then kick it to him. I have confidence he will knock it down. He’s a good leader and keeps me grounded as he has been to a state championship, I was on that team, but he was a starter.
Interviewing Burke gave a good feel of where he was at and his thoughts in his game. Definitely a talented player from the City League that will have College opportunities.
