The 6’3″ Campbell is an excellent scoring guard who can also make his teammates better around him. His all-around skills have earned him an offer from Division II Maryville University as well as interest from schools such as UMSL, SEMO, Rockhurst, Central Missouri, Findlay among others.
Campbell has a nice combination of size, skills and a high basketball IQ. He can knock down 3-pointers off the catch, but he is also dangerous with the ball in his hands as a jump shooter off the dribble and a playmaker with the pass. His physical strength enables him to get where he wants to go on the court.
“I see myself as a smart and patient playmaker,” he said. “When I have the ball in my hands, I can drive and make a pass for a teammate to score easily as well as pull up from the mid-range, shoot the three or finish a layup in the paint. I see myself as an old-school point guard with a scorer’s skill set. I want to set up teammates, but if they aren’t at their best I can carry the weight of the game on my shoulders with my scoring ability.”
As a junior, Campbell averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists a game while shooting 48 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line. He was an All-Suburban West Conference performer as a junior and he has his sights set on lofty heights as a senior.
“I want to make All-Tournament in every tournament we play in this year,” he said. “One of the biggest goals that I’ve got my eyes on is (former Lafayette standout) Mike Messer’s single season scoring record at Lafayette. At the end of my senior year, I’m hoping to build of my first team all-district and all-conference honors and become an All-State player. Most of all, my main focus is to raise a district and conference banner in the gym at Lafayette High School.”
