The 6’8 Northweather already has an offer from Missouri Western as well as plenty on interest from Division II programs in the region. Many Division II programs were a constant presence at his games throughout the grassroots season.
Northweather may be a little under the radar to many, but his size and overall skill set check him in at No. 31 in the current Prep Hoops Missouri 2020 rankings. He didn’t play on a major shoe circuit team, but he did some major work for the Mid Mo Elite program throughout his high school career.
Comprised of kids from the middle of the state, the Mid Mo Elite competed well against a lot of top teams in the region and a major reason why was Northweather’s ability to create matchup problems. At 6’8, he is a factor in the post with his ability to score and rebound at a high level. He can also stretch the defense with his 3-point shooting and go on rim-runs for transition buckets.
“I had a very good summer with Mid-Mo Elite,” he said. “We got the chance to play against a lot of good competition and we played well.”
After earning All-State honors as a junior, Northweather returns for his senior year to a Blair Oaks team that figures to be a contender in Class 3 once again. As a junior, Northweather averaged 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Falcons to a berth in the Class 3 state quarterfinals.
Northweather had 15 points and 10 rebounds in Blair Oaks’ victory over a talented Father Tolton team in the district championship game. He also had 26 points and nine rebounds in a victory over Versailles in the Sectionals.
“Hopefully, we can go further in the state tournament this year,” he said. “We lost a lot of good seniors, but we have some young kids who are doing really well.”
One of those young kids is Northweather’s younger brother, Luke, who is a 6’7″ post player and up and coming young prospect. The Northweather brothers figure to form a very effective twin towers in Mid-Missouri this season.
