Grier figures to be one of the top guys for the Wildcats this season and prepared himself for a heavier load by playing with Hoop Salem in a number of big tournaments this summer.
“It was really fun – we only had six guys so there was a lot of PT (playing time),” Grier said. “Everybody got better and the summer was good. I really worked on my defensive intensity, rebounding was a big thing, and taking the ball to the hole.”
Grier has always been a great shooter. But adding the ability to drive to the basket to compliment his solid pull-up game has made him more of a diverse offensive player. It’s still early when it comes to any kind of college recruiting attention but there’s no doubt Grier is aiming high.
“I want to play Division I but whatever happens, happens,” Grier said. “I’m just going to keep putting in the work and offers will come hopefully.”
The focus of course is on this upcoming season, one in which both Grier and Westview will have high expectations placed upon them. “I’m really excited – we’re going to be pretty good,” Grier said. “I think I can be a leader for this team. I’ve been pushing everybody every day in practice, helping the other guys get better and help us get better. I think we’ll have a good year.”
