Eight months before that offer, on January 17th, Kimberly is vying for a conference win over Kaukauna. It is a Friday night slugfest, and scattered amongst a throng of fans sits Evan Flood, Grant Matheny and myself. But on that night, Asman plopped down on the tail end of Kimberly’s bench, warm up on as his team eked out a thrilling victory.
In nine months, he went from mop-up-duty to full-on offer. So, what changed?
Quite a bit, actually.
Immediately after his sophomore year, a skinny, somewhat-coordinated Asman meandered into the weight room. He put himself on a five day per week regimen, and since March, he added 15-20 pounds onto his frame.
Not only that, but a shift in mindset escorted him through those nine months. As simple as it sounds, Asman began playing harder. His sophomore year heralded less urgency, but in his junior year, more effort, strength, and skill became a hard-set requirement.
Rooted in any major coupe will be team success, as he hopes to win conference and punch a ticket to State this upcoming season. In terms of his role, Asman will enter the year completely blindfolded. After working with minimal tick last season, it is unsure where he will fall on the depth chart. The create-a-player forward can work in different positions and lineups, but whether he will be the second scoring option or complementary piece remains up in the air.
Down the road, Asman knows that his strength and post play need fine-tuning. Right now his sheer size accounts for most of his production inside the free-throw line, but with more muscle, increased awareness and sense to make moves in the post, Asman will start filling out his potential (the fact that he has only begun to do that should scare the rest of the FVA).
Overall, the Kimberly forward wears a lengthy, nimble frame, can stroke it from outside and handle the rock like a guard. His mixed bag of tools and traits began taking form this fall, as he is showed drastic improvements in fall leagues and at the Prep Hoops Expo.
