2021 6’10” forward Alijah Kuehl was a bruiser at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in Daytona early last month and he earned an offer from Jacksonville on Saturday. Alongside him is 2022 6’5″, 167-pound guard Maxwell Hunstad, who is fresh off a standout summer with Cream City Southeast.
Hunstad says suiting up with Cream City SE felt like “a basketball boot camp.”
“Playing in that high level was so beneficial for me as of what to expect and how hard I have to work to be better than the next man,” he told Prep Hoops.
As a freshman, Hunstad mixed in for Bartram Trail and says he learned a lot about the pace of the game and what it takes to make it to the next step. Also on the varsity team is 2021 6’2″ guard Darian Johnson who averaged 10.2 PPG a season ago and Maxwell’s older brother Marius, a 2020 6′ guard who averaged 4.6 PPG in 2018-19.
No offers or interest have come yet for the sophomore, but his shooting touch alone is going to draw a lot of looks moving forward.
In terms of his top strengths, Hunstad pointed to his shooting touch in all areas, passing vision and all-around IQ and decision making.
He says he’s working currently to further his 1-on-1 defense, strength and athleticism.
Hunstad says he is always able to keep his emotions and anger in games and his coaches have taken notice.
A long body, he has a knack for a big shot offensively and he’s crafty enough to find openings. With more speed and strength, Hunstad will be an even bigger threat on both ends of the floor. This should be a breakout year for him alongside a good cast of players at Bartram Trail.
