PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Jake Buchanan and Max Klesmit
It’s going to be really tough for coaches to split hairs between Klesmit and Buchanan — two seniors that mean so much to their teams. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see them share the award.
Klesmit, a Wofford commit, led the FVA in scoring last season at 24.3 ppg. He also led the Rockets to an appearance in the Division 1 state tournament. Buchanan, a Rockhurst commit, averaged 17.3 points and 3.7 assists per game next to last season’s POY Levi Borchert as the Papermakers went 22-3 overall.
SURPRISE PLAYER – Grant Asman
There were a lot of games in which Asman didn’t even appear in, but the junior forward is quickly developing into one of the bigger matchup problems in the conference. Asman played in 14 games, averaging 1.2 points per contest. A skilled, versatile 6-foot-8 forward, Asman will form a dangerous 1-2 punch with Buchanan at Kimberly this season.
BREAKOUT PLAYER – Mack Sebert
As a freshman, Sebert averaged a promising 10.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. After a 2-22 season, the Cardinals are going to rebuild behind the 6-foot-5 forward. An honorable mention All-Conference selection last season, Sebert can bang inside and also step out to the perimeter and shoot from distance.
