Our series will take a look at the best teams in the state for each class with our rankings. Starting at #50 and going to #1, we will look at each class ranking across all classes starting now with #22.
1A #22: Liberty Christian
Liberty Christian has been very good over the last decade and made their runs. Now, they are in a bit of a rebuild mode but have aomse really good pieces to move forward with. Christian Nunn came in as a freshman last year and was very impressive with 16.5 ppg. THey bring back their Top 3 scorers in Nunn, Quentin Edmonds-Long, and Cade McCord and only lose 1 senior. They went 12-12 last year and lost in the Sectional Championship. Expectations are to move forward and they have the high-end talent and pieces returning to do just that.
2A #22: Crawford County
Crawford County has been one of the more under-the-radar teams in the Southern part of the state. They went 20-6 last year and outside of 2017-18 when they won 10 games, they have won at least 14 each season since 2009-10. They have some solid size and veterans returning including Colten Nickerson who was really good last season as a 6’4 wing. Him and Preston Coleman will be the two returning seniors to keep your eyes on as they look to get back to 20-wins and make it out of a tough Sectional with Paoli and Tell City.
3A #22: Hammond
Hammond will be one of the teams really relying on their young roster but do have some key pieces returning in Michael Anderson, Reggie Abram, and Harold Woods. They have a deep young group of freshman coming in as well with Ja’Khorion Jones, DeSean Foster, and Vince Overshown. They are going to be tested this season as they play a little bit of everyone but if by the end of the year, the young guys can step up, this team has size and some scoring ability but maybe not the depth yet, they could be interesting. This is a team that just needs time.
4A #22: Zionsville
This past year Zionsville made a big run and got to the Regional Championship before falling to Carmel. Now, Shaun Busick will be in a bit of a rebuild here as they lose a ton of talent in Isaiah Thompson, Jake Ritter, Mark Smith, Nate Childress, Brandon Vernon, and Hogan Orbaugh. They still have a ton of talent left but it will be a completely different look with Anthony Scales, Ben Weidner, and Gunner Vannatta leading the way. They did get Jackson Hughes to transfer in from Renssalaer Central which will give them more size on the wing. They still need a defined lead guard but they could look to incoming freshman Logan Imes to help with that a bit. Maybe not the high-end potential of last year but they shouldn’t surprise anyone with their ability to win any game on their schedule.
