Our series will take a look at the best teams in the state for each class with our rankings. Starting at #50 and going to #1, we will look at each class ranking across all classes starting now with #21.
1A #21: Parke Heritage
The Wolves will be coming into this season off a bad 8-16 record but return a talented group of players. They return a powerful frontcourt consisting of center Conner Davis (11.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and power forward Logan White (11.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg). There backcourt will be looking to improve so guards like Landen Stewart (4.8 ppg) and Riley Ferguson (3.4 ppg) will be needing to make a leap forward. The frontcourt of the Wolves will for sure be the anchor for this year’s team. Look for this physical team to improve drastically and win a fairly easy Sectional thus having a chance to become Regional Champs as well.
2A #21: Indianapolis Howe
The Hornets are coming into this season off a solid 17-6 record but with a tough Sectional Championship loss to add to that. They do, however, return a really good crop of talent. The leader of this team will undoubtedly be 6’2 senior small forward Dashon Scott. Look for good players like Charley Sykes, Quincy Henry, TyRon Bradley, and others to be great compliment players for Scott. It will be interesting to see how first year head coach DeAndre Brock does with this very talented team. Look for Indianapolis Howe to one of the favorites, along with Covenant Christian and Heritage Christian, to win a 2A Sectional Tittle.
3A #21: Edgewood
The Mustangs will be coming into this season off great 20-6 record and new head coach, Matt Wadsworth. They lose six outgoing seniors to graduation but return their top two scorers. The top player for Edgewood will be Trevor Taylor (18.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg), who is one of the top shooting guard prospects in the state. Their other returning lead scorer is long forward Coleman Slater (11.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg). Look for a player like Derek Farkas (5.0 ppg) to take big step forward this season. Though there may be some questions regarding the front court this year, the Mustangs should be one of the favorites to win a competitive Sectional.
4A #21: Chesterton
After coming off a great season with a 19-7 record and Sectional Championship, the Trojans return an experienced roster. This team will be led by senior small forward stud Jake Wadding. Along with Wadding is the returning sophomore point guard Travis Grayson, who is a rugged, physical prospect. Other than these two top players, Chesterton has well-built roster. This squad should be in for another great season and has a chance to go on a much deeper run come post-season. Look out for the Trojans in 4A.
