Continue ReadingThe OK White will be one of the more intriguing conference races this season as Northview, Forest Hills Northern and Forest Hills Central bring back the most talent in the league and will likely be jockeying for position at the top throughout the season. The OK White doesn’t lack guard play as eight players from the back court find themselves on my preseason All-Conference list.
All-Conference First Team:
Kaden Boucher
6’4″/ Wing
Northview, 2020
Kaden is an athletic wing who can three and d with the best of them. Already seeing considerable interests from colleges and universities across the Midwest, expect Kaden to bring his game to the next level and look to push Northview to another post-season run.
Ethan Erickson
5’11″/ Guard
Forest Hills Northern, 2021
Ethan will be an essential piece to Forest Hills Northern’s success this season as the Huskies graduated four key pieces from a team that went 20-0 in the regular season in 2019. Expect Ethan’s workload to increase heavily.
Jimmy Scholler
6’4″/ Guard
Forest Hills Central, 2020
Jimmy has proven to be one of the premier passers in West Michigan, tallying double digit assists throughout his junior season. He broke the record for most assists in a game for Forest Hills Central (13) last year and will look to meet more milestones in hopes they translate to more wins for the Rangers.
Avarie Simpson
5,10″/ Guard
Northview, 2020
Avarie leads a talented group at Northview, both by his play and his leadership. One of the quicker guards in the area, Avarie controls the flow of the game and consistently elevates the play of his teammates. With Northview installing a new system with it’s new coaching staff, expect Avarie to help guide the Wildcats through the transition.
Mitch Wilkinson
6’4″/ Wing
Forest Hills Central, 2020
Mitch will be another key piece for the Rangers this season. Coming off a junior campaign that saw multiple 20+ point outings, his role will continue to grow. Mitch is a versatile wing who can shoot it consistently from three, and can also attack and finish at and above the rim.
Second Team
Trinidad Chambliss
5’11”/ Guard
Forest Hills Northern, 2021
Trinidad will look to help fill the void for a Forest Hills Northern squad that saw the majority of its talent graduate a season a go. Trinidad is a smooth-operating guard, who has the ability to beat his man off the dribble and shoot it from beyond the arch.
Trenton Cooper
5’8”/ Guard
Cedar Springs, 2020
Cooper is known around the area to be a pass-first point guard, as he racked-up assists a season ago for the Red Hawks. However, it’s his late-game poise that lands him on this list. Expect Trenton to be Cedar Spring’s go-to guy when they need a bucket in late game situations.
George Hatchett
5’10″/ Guard
Forest Hills Central, 2021
George transferred to Forest Hills Central from Ottawa Hills and is expected to make an immediate impact for the Rangers this season. He could prove to be the missing piece the Rangers need to get over the hump and claim the conference title.
Kyler VanderJagt
Guard
Northview, 2022
Kyler arrived for the Wildcats in the District tournament, posting 14 points against Cedar Springs in the district semifinals. He then followed up that performance by scoring 15 points in the district championship game, including a clutch three pointer at the end of the second overtime. Expect the sophomore’s confidence to continue to flourish for the Wildcats this season.
Santana Phillips
Guard
Ottawa Hills, 2021
Santana will look to lead a young group for Ottawa Hills. Santana features a quick first-step and has a knack for causing havoc on the defensive side of the ball.
