Continue ReadingRacine county is consistently putting out some of the top basketball prospects in the state, and this year is no exception. The 2021 class is absolutely loaded, and figures to dominate the first and second teams this year. Racine County elects a five man first-team, a five man second-team, and two honorable mentions from each school. I’ll dish out my predictions for the loaded all-county teams, as well as a few other players who could compete for those spots.
First Team
(POTY) Tyrese Hunter (6’1 2021 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Now holding a high major offer, Tyrese is arguably the best 2021 guard in the whole state. He’s the lone returning member of last year’s first-team after averaging 14.8 points and 4.1 assists, and will increase his workload after St. Cat’s lost three of their key players from last year. Behind Tyrese’s next level athleticism, basketball IQ, and scoring prowess, St. Cat’s enters the season as the D3 favorite, and if they can make a run at the title, Tyrese could end up with some individual hardware as well.
JaKobe Thompson (6’1 2021 G, Racine Case)- Another guard who could find himself in contention for POTY, JaKobe is one of the state’s most talented scorers. He made the second-team last year after averaging 19+ points for the second straight season, and after dropping 47 points in a fall league game, he looks ready to take the next step into the 20+ range. The lefty has a smooth stroke from outside, and is aggressive attacking the rim which earns him plenty of trips to the charity stripe.
Antuan Nesbitt (6’3 2021 W, Prairie)- A dark-horse candidate to end up winning POTY, Antuan can fill up the box score in a hurry. He led Prairie in all three major stats with 15.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg, and 4.6 apg. With Isaiah Hoyt transferring to Union Grove, Antuan will be called upon to do even more for a young but talented Prairie team. Antuan plays even longer than he is, and combines that with bounce around the basket and a smooth perimeter game. Expect him to make the leap from the second-team to the first-team this year as a junior.
Dylan Runkel (6’7 2020 F, Burlington)- The lone first-teamer from the west side of Racine County, as well as the only senior, this D1 football commit is a bruiser in the paint for Burlington. A talented basketball player in his own right, Dylan made the second team last year after averaging 12.4 ppg, including 18+ four times. He can score with his back to the basket, and can also get out in transition and finish above the rim. Dylan doesn’t put up huge scoring numbers, but his ability to defend, rebound, and score efficiently makes him arguably the best big man in the county.
Kamari McGee (6′ 2021 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- The other half of St. Cat’s elite guard duo is Kamari McGee, who is one of the state’s top guard prospects in his own right. He could be the best defender in Racine this season, and he can also put up numbers on offense as evident by his 10.4 points and 3.8 assists a game as a sophomore. He was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore, but will see an increased offensive role on a team that figures to be among the state’s best this year.
Second Team
Brady Wilks (5’8 2021 G, Racine Lutheran)- Brady could very well find himself making the first-team when it’s all said and done. Why? He’s a returning second-team member who averaged 15.8 ppg last season. Team success compared to other all-county members could be the thing that holds him back.
Isaiah Hoyt (5’11 2021 G, Union Grove)- Isaiah could very well be the top player in the SLC this year. He was an honorable mention selection last season at Prairie after scoring 11.4 points a contest with his sharp shooting ability. Union Grove plays a slow brand of basketball, so it’s tough to say how his numbers will look this year.
Terryon Brumby (6′ 2022 G, Racine Case)- Terryon is one of the top sophomore guards in the state, and proved that by averaging 11.4 ppg as a freshman, earning honorable mention honors in the county. Would likely put up huge scoring numbers on a handful of other teams, but Case is loaded with talent around him.
Elijah Lambert (6’4 2020 F, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Elijah is as tough as nails, and as strong as they come on the court. He’ll be the main man inside for St. Cats, and will likely collect rebounds in bunches. He had a productive summer, and will look to pick up his recruitment after averaging 6.9 points and 5.4 rebounds as a junior.
Amari Jedkins (6’7 2022 F, Racine Case)- Amari’s ceiling is among the highest in the 2022 class, a big reason why his minutes continued to increase as his freshman season advanced. He’ll be a shot blocking threat who can use his athleticism to score around the basket and in transition. Amari earned honorable mention all-county honors after averaging 5.7 points and 4.3 rebounds, and he is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential.
Five More Contenders
Stevie Henderson (6’2 2020 W, Racine Park)- Park’s top returning player. Averaged 5.2 ppg and 4.0 rpg as a junior.
Darrien Long (6’5 2022 W, Racine Horlick)- Takes over for a Horlick squad that loses almost everyone. Scored 4.9 a game as a freshman.
Bennett Wright (5’11 2020 G, Catholic Central)- Crafty senior guard who averaged 10.5 points and 3.5 assists for BCC last year.
Jackson Woodward (5’11 2021 G, Racine Lutheran)- Productive guard who scored 14.1 ppg to go along with 3.2 boards and 3 assists a game last year.
Jameer Barker (6’2 2021 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Junior guard who can score in a hurry from outside. Ready to breakout after scoring 5 ppg as a sophomore.
