Kenosha County elects a five man first-team and a five man second-team, and I’ll dish out my predictions for those selections, as well as five other players who could compete for All-County honors.
First Team
(POTY) Ezra Stargell (5’9 2021 PG, Kenosha Indian Trails)- One of a few players who is in strong competition for player of the year, I’m taking Stargell as he has been producing the longest, and his team is more competitive than some of the other contenders. Ezra is small in stature, but has electric ball handling and agility combined with a sharp jumper and elite passing vision. He’s also an All-County regular, as he made the second team as a freshman, and is coming off a first team selection as a sophomore. Ezra averaged 15.8 ppg last year, including a high of 36.
Quentin Bolton (6’5 2021 W, Shoreland Lutheran)- Quentin is another player who could find himself in contention for POTY honors as the season closes. He had a coming out party last year, averaging 12.1 ppg to go along with 9.7 rpg, developing into a walking double-double. Quentin was one of the biggest stockrisers over the summer, developing himself into a scholarship level prospect with plenty of room to grow. He has more size than a lot of players he’ll go up against, and combines that with a dangerous isolation game from the perimeter. Coming off a second team selection last year, look for his numbers to skyrocket as a junior.
Maxwell Glass (6’3 2020 F, Kenosha Bradford)- Maxwell doubled his scoring average as a junior, putting up an impressive 15.3 ppg to earn first team laurels in the county. He doesn’t possess traditional post height, but he is a strong bodied forward who can step outside and knock down the three ball. His size and ability to step outside and handle the ball make him a match-up issue for opposing coaches. Max is a veteran among the rest of the players on this list, and if Bradford can put together a strong season, he could also push himself into POTY contention.
Andrew Alia (6’2 2022 G, Kenosha St. Joseph)- A rising star for a rebuilding St. Joes program, Andrew had one of the most productive freshman seasons among anyone in the state last season. His 15.7 ppg and 3 rpg earned him second team honors for Kenosha County, and those numbers could get even more impressive as there is still a lack of any upperclassmen presence on his team. Andrew is a top-15 level player in the state’s 2022 class, and is capable of putting up numbers that more than justify that ranking.
Jack Rose (6’3 2022 G, Westosha Central)- Though Rose is the least proven on this list at the varsity level, he is the best long-term college prospect in the county. The state’s third ranked 2022 prospect after the departure of Tre White, Rose came off the bench for Central last season and averaged 7.2 points as a freshman. Those scoring numbers could rise substantially though due to Central graduating just about everyone from last year’s talented team. Jack had a huge summer with Wisconsin PGC, and will look to continue that success into the high school season.
Second Team
Zack Watson (5’9 2020 G, Wilmot)- Watson was a first team selection last season, but due to the younger talents growing so much, I have him on the second team here. Wilmot returns a lot from their 18-6 team last year, and Zack is arguably their best returning player after averaging 11.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists as a junior.
Kevin Sandman (5’9 2021 G, Wilmot)- Sandman also returns to the Wilmot backcourt, as a returning second team selection. Though small in stature, Sandman can absolutely light it up from beyond the arc, having shot 42% from distance last season. Scored 11.8 points a contest.
Jyon Young (6′ 2020 G, Kenosha Tremper)- Jyon returns to lead Tremper after a very productive junior year. He will be their go-to player offensively after averaging 14.2 ppg, but can also distribute for them as evident by his 3.7 apg. A returning all-county honorable mention selection.
Da’Quantae Sawyer (6’1 2020 G, Kenosha Bradford)- Da’Quantae Sawyer is one of a handful of talented players returning to the Bradford lineup, and is a reason why they have a shot to improve so much over last season. Excels at getting to the basket. Scored 10.3 ppg last season.
Jeremiah Suber (6’1 2020 G, Kenosha Indian Trails)- Suber has a handful of options at the Divison 3 level lined up for next season, but for now he’ll look to be a scoring option for ITA. Was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore averaging 9.2 ppg, but had his numbers slip to 7.4 ppg last year.
Five More Contenders
Anthony Bernero (6’3 2020 F, Kenosha Indian Trails)- Scrappy senior forward who can score around the basket. Honorable mention selection last year after scoring 12 a game.
Tre Gordon (6’1 2021 G, Kenosha Bradford)- Potential breakout player who can shoot and get to the basket. Scored 5.7 ppg off the bench last year.
Jake Gross (6’3 2020 F, Kenosha Tremper)- Good outside shooter who rebounds in bunches. Averaged 13.4 points and 8.2 rebounds last year, earning an honorable mention selection.
Austin Eifert (6’3 2020 F, Kenosha Christian Life)- Scored 14.2 ppg as a junior, but lack of consistent competition could hold him back from the second team.
London Glass (5’10 2021 G, Wilmot)- Skilled guard scored 10.8 ppg for Wilmot as a sophomore. Younger brother of former Wilmot standout Latrell Glass.
