Everyone loves scoring. The best scorer is often considered the best player, but impacting the game on the defensive end is just as significant. As the saying goes, defense wins championships. In hoops, there are several ways in which a defender impacts the game: steals, rebounds, blocks are the most obvious. Taking charges or holding your opponent to bad shots are also valuable forms of defense. Here are Idaho’s preseason All Defensive Team. 

Center

Day Day Higgins- The 6’7” center is a force in the middle for Lakeside High School. Higgins impacts the game on defensive end in all of the significant ways. He blocks shots, 1.0 per game, steals the ball, 1.9 per game, he rebounds 5.6 per game, but his most significant effect on defense is probably how he alters shots. His presence influences the offense before he even does anything. 

 

Forwards

Paul Yanor- The 6’2” forward is all hustle. He sticks to his opponent like a glove. His frenetic style creates 2.3 steals a game while pulling down 8.1 rebounds and blocking 1.3 shots as a forward.
