Take your pick of any of three Treynor Cardinals for the POY honor, you can’t really go wrong. We went with the 6-10 big man who protects the rim (80 blocks), scores efficiently (59.1 FG%) and led the team in rebounding last season. Treynor is always a high-level team in 2A, and Schwarte and company should be in the running for a state title this year.
First Team
2020 Jon Schwarte, Treynor (11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 3.8 blocks, 59.1 FG%)
The 6-10 big man impacts the game on both ends of the floor with his ability to control the paint and protect the rim. He’s not a go-to scorer, but he finishes around the bucket and rebounds at a high level.
2020 Jack Tiarks, Treynor (13.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.5 steals, 61.4 FG%)
The Cardinals’ leading scorer last season, and the leading returnee in the league, Tiarks is a highly efficient forward. He also led the team in steals last season.
2020 Jack Stogdill, Treynor (11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.1 steals)
Another double-figure returning scorer for the Cardinals, Stogdill’s 114 assists last season were far and away the most in the league.
2020 Kaiden Smith, Audubon (11.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.4 steals, 50.0 FG%)
Smith’s scoring numbers should see a major uptick this year following the graduation of Tate Kileen and Lane Lawson, who combined to average over 34 points a game. Smith led the Wheelers in assists and steals last season.
2021 Leyton Nelson, Tri-Center (12.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 steals, 56.4 FG%)
Nelson led the Trojans in scoring and rebounding last season, shooting an impressive 56.4% from the floor in the process.
