2020 G Jamison Helmers Jamison Helmers 6'0" | CG Okoboji | 2020 State IA (Okoboji)
The 5-foot-11 combo-guard led the Pioneers last season with 16.9 points per game and led the way with 58 three-pointers. While Helmers can be a threat from behind the arc, he has a good mid-range jumper and can drive and score too. When the senior drives, he has good instincts of when to shoot and when to pass it off to his teammate to score.
2022 G Connor Sauvage (Douglas)
Despite only being 5-foot-10, Connor Sauvage was one of the hardest workers I saw during the 250 Expo. He’s aggressive, scrappy and can beat you in many different aspects of the game. In his first game, he made key hustle plays to help his team keep possession when he kept the ball in just off the baseline. The defense also continued to give him an opportunity to hit the three from behind the arc where he would continue to deliver for his team.
2020 G Riyen Carlow Riyen Carlow 6'2" | SG Red Cloud | 2020 State SD (Red Cloud Indian School)
The senior point guard has quick hands and has a slasher mentality. He can drive through traffic to the rim or make a quick pass if the defense collapses on him. He knows how to protect the basketball and that’s what makes him successful at the point. Carlow also can beat opponents in transition by using his quickness to get the easy lay-up.
2021 G Jabril Muktar (Sioux Falls Washington)
At an event where it’s very offensive-minded, Muktar played strong defensively and used his scrappy playmaking ability to beat opposing players in transition. What he lacks in height, he makes up with his speed. He doesn’t give opponents much separation on defense and uses his athleticism and quickness when he drives to the basket. He’s a player that will win 50-50 balls.
2022 G Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA (Okoboji)
As mentioned in our Top Performers article, Lorenzen had 20-plus points in all three games he played in. What we didn’t mention, is that in the second game his team played the entire game with five players. He was able to grind it out, along with his teammates, and continued to slash the lane to get points. He’s shifty, has good court vision and is a pure shooter that can carry his team.
