PF Lance Rodgers (Simeon – 2022)
Rodgers is a 6’6” power forward that has broad shoulders and long arms. Like his projectability as he should be able to grow even more over the next few years of high school. He was excellent on the glass high pointing rebounds in traffic and getting put backs. Defensively he is a shot blocking presence being able to come out of nowhere for swats. Could be the next impact post player for Simeon.
PF Daniel Wolf (Lake Forest Academy – 2022)
Wolf was absolutely sensational in his first game of the day! The 6’7” four man was extremely active on both ends of the floor. Offensively he can stretch the floor shooting it, put it on the deck, and score at the cup. Several times he took the ball off the glass and pushed it the other way for acrobatic layups. Defensively he was effective as a rim protector.
PG Trey Pettigrew (Fenwick – 2022)
Pettigrew is trending as one of the top lead guards in the sophomore class in Illinois. He more than proved that with his play on Saturday. He scored effectively from all three levels. Opened up with a shot fake and pull up mid-range jumper. Followed that up with several threes. Pettigrew got to the rim for athletic scores in the paint. Tough on ball defender that puts pressure on opposing lead guards.
PF Nigel Hylton (Lake Forest Academy – 2022)
Hylton broke out on Saturday. This is a prospect we had heard about, but it was our first time seeing him in person. The 6’8” mobile four man was electric getting on the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. He is a bouncy power forward that rebounds at a high level. Quick around the hoop and snatched rebounds at a high rate. Long and rangy frame that should fill out in time. Offensively he finished dump off passes, threw down a nasty alley-oop, and displayed touch around the hoop. Hylton even hit a corner three late in the day. This Canadian prospect will debut very high in our next update of the 2022 class.
PF Javonte Taylor (Morgan Park – 2023)
Taylor is the best freshman we have seen in the state of Illinois so far. It’s not really close either. The 6’7” power forward has great size, broad shoulders, and length. Versatile game makes him a mismatch against players his own age. He can stretch the floor with his shooting as he opened up play on Saturday drilling a pair of feathery threes. At times he can settle a little too much for the three ball, but he can definitely knock them down at a high rate. Taylor has a sweet euro step in transition that he converted consistently throughout the day. Snatched rebounds often taking them the other way on his own starting the break.
PG Jaylen Drane (Simeon – 2022)
Drane currently sets at #2 overall in the 2022 class and will probably hold onto that spot after his play Saturday night. He was a bit up and down in the afternoon session, but in the night game he was absolutely dominant! Drane is a combo guard that is most comfortable playing with the ball in his hands. He had his three point shot working and was drilling them at a high clip from all over the floor with deep pull up triples. Also created for others with his passing in drive and kick situations or dishing off to the big inside. When he is locked in like he was Saturday night he is one of the top young prospects in Illinois.
PG Dalen Davis (Whitney Young – 2023)
Davis is a point guard we saw quite a bit playing up with Meanstreets 15U over the summer. He will have an apprenticeship under DJ Steward and Tyler Beard this season before taking the reins in future years. What you have to like about Davis is his advanced basketball IQ and feel for the game. Got to the rim with his quickness off the bounce and was a pesky on ball defender that got after it creating turnovers!
PF Omaha Biliew (Dowling Catholic, IA – 2023)
It took all of about five trips down the floor to believe the hype with this freshman. Biliew is a 6’7” power forward that can play the three through five positions really. He was a dominant rebounder on both ends of the floor. Time and time again Biliew took the ball off the glass and went the other way for a score. Handles it like a guard in the open floor along with making some of the best passes we saw all day. Around the hoop he finishes so well with powerful dunks. He was completely unguardable any time he touched the ball. Works well in the pick and roll as a finisher. Defensively he got in passing lanes on the perimeter and in the paint swatted tons of shots. Five-star prospect in the freshman class.
PG Taison Chatman (Totino-Grace, MN – 2023)
This was my first look at Chatman and I came away impressed with the 6’3” Minnesota guard. Bouncy combo guard with excellent size. Smooth feel for the game and is a sound mid-range shooter. Handles it with ease weaving in and out of the defense. Tons of physical upside and he is already extremely skilled at a young age. Could be the next star guard to come out of Minnesota.
SF Ty Rodgers (Grand Blanc, MI – 2022)
Rodgers is a big and strong 6’6” wing from Michigan that can really go! The wing has an explosive burst with the ball in his hands and an elite second jump getting on the offensive glass for second chance points. His high level of athleticism showed through with his ability to attack the cup at will! Physically and athletically overwhelmed opponents trying to check him. One of the future stars in the state of Michigan.
