There were a ton of big names in attendance as well as some lesser known players who are working hard to make names for themselves. Here are five more prospects who really impressed me last weekend:
Pimptereus Henderson – 2022 6’1 Guard Bryan HS – Henderson is a speedy ball handler. He was noticeably faster than the majority of prospects he was playing against and only knows one speed, which is full speed. It’s nearly impossible for opposing defenders to keep him in front of them. Henderson has tight handles and is a good finisher on the drive. He thrives at playing in transition. He is a solid passer as well.
Jordan Walsh Jordan Walsh 6'7" | SF Link Academy | 2022 #31 Nation MO – 2022 6’6 Wing (Nike Drive Nation E15) Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy – This is one of the most fascinating prospects in the entire state of Texas. He has the size and strength to play in the post, but also possesses more than enough skill to play in the backcourt. Furthermore, Walsh is a tremendous passer with the potential to become an elite facilitator. His versatility and lack of weaknesses is something you rarely see in a high school sophomore. He even proved he can make the three ball with consistency. He has quickly become my favorite prospect in the class of 2022.
Connor Boydstun – 2023 5’9 Guard Westmoore HS – I’m always impressed when an undersized guard can be productive versus bigger opponents. Connor Boydstun did exactly that at the Pangos camp. He is a super crafty finisher near the basket. The freshman from Oklahoma converted a few difficult layup attempts that left me speechless, including a gorgeous reverse layup in traffic. If his shot isn’t there on the drive, he is also capable of laying it off to a big down low. Additionally, Boydstun is a great ball handler. I saw him shake an opposing defender out of his shoes while bring the ball up on offense.
Trae Clayton Trae Clayton 6'5" | SF Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX – 2022 6’4 Small Forward (Nike Drive Nation E15) Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy – Clayton is an exceptional athlete. He is one of those players who seems to hang in the air forever whenever he attacks the rim for a layup or dunk. The 6’4″ forward is one of the best off-ball players I’ve seen in the class of 2022. He is always moving without the basketball and makes timely cuts. He’s a sneaky good passer too. Clayton also showed the ability to hit open threes from the catch. Defensively, he is a lock down on-ball stopper. When he is engaged at both ends, he’s as good as anyone.
Cole Franklin – 2022 6’3 Guard Desoto HS – Franklin is another prospect who excels at playing off the ball on offense. He was one of the best shooters in attendance. He hit multiple three’s in all of the games I saw him play in. I don’t want to label him a “corner specialist” since he can make it from anywhere behind the arc, but he is extremely effective from the corners. He has a quick and high release on his jump shot that allows him to be unaffected by defenders closing out on him. I also loved his ability to get to the rim and convert some difficult double clutch lay-ins.
