Both teams will have significant differences on their roster this season but both the Lakers and the Techmen should be post-season candidates. Here’s a look at how some of the top players on both squads performed in the time we watched.
Trace Salton (2021 Lake Oswego) – Salton looks good physically, in shape and looks fully recovered from his surgery last season. He was very active in the drills and was able to use his body to physically overpower defenders down low. Salton is making progress with making his jumpshot more consistent. He noted that he received his first scholarship offer from St. Martin’s over the summer.
Jack Chlumak (2020 Lake Oswego) – The first thing we noticed immediately with Chlumak is his perimeter shooting is much improved. He was also able to use his physical stature and athleticism to be effective around the basket. His versatility to play both almost any position on the floor, especially defensively, will be of great benefit to the Lakers this season. Chlumak has two D-III roster spots secured at George Fox and Pacific Lutheran.
Grant Brauner (2020 Lake Oswego) – Brauner will have a much increased role on this year’s team, especially considering he’s one of the tallest guys on the team at 6-foot-5. He’s at heart a perimeter player and at the workout he showed a pretty nice looking jumper and the athleticism to take it to the hoop and finish.
Cobee Crawford (2020 Benson) – Crawford will be the unquestioned leader of the Techmen being the key senior contributor back from last season. The 6-foot power guard was tough on drives and pull-ups as usual but was good about moving the basketball in drills. No matter if it’s a game, scrimmage, or practice you can expect Crawford to play hard all the time and that’s exactly what he did. A high-academic student, Crawford is hoping to amp up his recruitment this year.
Kavon Bradford (2023 Benson) – He may be an incoming freshman but a strong case can be made that Bradford will be Benson’s second best player on the team. The 5-foot-11 is a rangy lefty who is very creative with the basketball and has a quick release on his outside shot. Bradford can seemingly score at will and there’s no question his development will be one to watch this season.
