Today, we have our look at some of the top players from the event as we take a dive into the 2023 prospects from this past Sunday.
Luke Almodovar – 6’1 SG 2023 – Noblesville (IN)
Luke is a solid off-guard scorer who showed a solid ability to score the ball. He is a little stronger than his counterparts and he did seem to take advantage of that a bit. Good jumper off the catch from three. Was one of the best scorers in the younger age groups as he put up 24 and then 21 points in his two games. Looks like he is going to be more of a 2-guard than a point right now.
Joey Brown – 6’4 SF 2023 – Lawrence North (IN)
Joey is a long, rangy wing who can handle the ball a bit for his position. Might transition down the road to more of a 4-man but does have that comfortability on the wing to play there. He scored 14 points in two games but did so in a few different ways. I think he does have a decent idea of how to use his long, lanky frame along with his athleticism. Good upside down the road, especially if he get taller which is going to happen.
Thomas Ruffin – 6’3 SF 2023 – Park Tudor (IN)
Ruffin was one of the more impressive younger players we watched on Sunday. So physically imposing when he wants to be. He showed he is really good at rebounding, both finding the ball off the rim and beating the defenders to the 50/50 ball. Scored it well but isn’t a guy that is going to look to shoot a ton. He uses his strength to get to the rim and does it pretty effectively. Can be a pretty versatile piece with defensive assignments and in the paint.
Preston Roberts – 6’3 SG 2023 – Noblesville (IN)
Preston is a tall guard who has a ton of ball skills. He’s really adept at creation, getting into the lane and finding his spots. Will need to improve the jumper a little bit but he’s always active and for his size, there is a great chance he can be an on-ball guard long term. Physically is great shape with a frame that is going to hold a ton of strength. He scored 22 points in his first game followed by 11 in the second.
Braeden Shrewsberry – 5’10 PG 2023 – West Lafayette (IN)
Braeden, the son of current Purdue assistant Micah Shrewsberry, is a dynamic lead guard who has a very solid jumper. He’s on the shorter side right now but does play tough at the point of attack and has the speed to create space. Was really solid off the pull-up with his jumper. Only scored 10 points but was an impact guy on both ends. He should still have a little height to tap into and if he can keep that open floor speed, he could be a really good one to watch.
A.J. Lux – 6’1 PG 2023 – Crown Point (IN)
Lux is a tall point guard with handles and IQ. He always seemed to make plays each game to setup his teammates. Son of former Merrillville head coach T.J. Lux, he is 6’1 right now but he should get quite a bit more height down the road. Ball handling seems really solid and he is good at driving right now and taking a little bit of a hit. He has a ton of length already and looks the part of a long term prospect.
Spencer White – 6’5 SF 2023 – Carmel (IN)
Spencer might end up being one of the best freshman in the state when we complete our first dive into this class. He’s big and strong already. Has a really smooth game and slashes well into the lane. He scored 27 points in his two games, showing in them a really good jumper. High release and tough to defend. He’s aggressive without being ineffective. Smart and potent. Wouldn’t surprise to see him be the most productive freshman in the state.
Keaton Buuck – 6’5 PF 2023 – Crown Point (IN)
Keaton is a low post forward with good touch around the rim. Built a little bit in the mold of a Blake Sisley (Heritage Hills) as a growing mobile big that can slash a bit but so agile in the post he is hard to stop. He’s impressive with his toughness around the rim, willing to be a rebounder and defensive presence. Needs a little more height long term but skill set is pretty solid already.
Daniel Harris – 5’10 PG 2023 – Muncie Central (IN)
Daniel is a small, young guard who played with a ton of confidence and didn’t back down from the older players in the game. He is really long and thin but does play with a good amount of strength. Had some quickness and was shifty in the lane. Did a little bit of everything you want to see from a point guard with his passing and creation. Need to see more but was impressive for his age.
