Today, we have our look at some of the top players from the event as we take a dive into the 2022 prospects from this past Sunday.
Cayden Vasko – 6’1 PG 2022 – Lowell (IN)
Cayden is a lean guard who has really developed into a solid lead guard. His passing looks to be really good at the moment. He’s really adept at getting the defense moving and then hitting the open guy. He’s added some solid weight and strength but is also rocking a little over 6’ now and could still be growing. Good upside now that his skill set has developed a bit more as a point guard and the frame is in a better spot.
Jack Mahoney – 6’8 C 2022 – Lake Central (IN)
Jack is a big, bruising post player who has really trimmed down in the last year. He’s also grown from around 6’6 to 6’8 and he looks a little bit better to really improve his game. He’s moving better and has a little bit more quickness in the paint. Had a couple nice plays and looks more comfortable with a little left-handed hook. Might still have a little more size to tap into but if the body keeps moving in that direction, will be interested to see how much more he can get with his offense.
Cole Hatkevich – 5’10 PG 2022 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
Cole is a solid lead guard who can really light it up from distance. He’s got some shiftiness to his game and gives a ton of effort. That effort does turn into a bunch of points on junk, second chance points on rebounds, breakaways, and a lot more. But, when he can outwork you and then drill a three, he was one of the more impactful guards we saw on the day. Finding his game and hopefully the beginning for him.
Lincoln Thomas – 6’2 SG 2022 – Victory Christian (IN)
Lincoln is a well built guard who was shooting the ball at a high level. Did most of it off the catch from three and He has quite a bit of strength and long term could be a guy who mixes it up in the paint, especially if he grows. Skill set does revolve more around that shooting ability and does play like one of those guys that can get hot and rip off a few in a row. Will be a name to watch long term.
Richard Brooks – 6’4 SF 2022 – Mishawaka Marian (IN)
Brooks is a big, strong wing who can give you a ton of different looks. He showed some athleticism on the day, hitting a couple big dunks. He was also great as a perimeter shooter when left open. Looks a little more mobile and athletic and more willing to play that way than he did in the spring. He did transfer from Penn (IN) to Mishawaka Marian (IN) this summer. He could be on the verge of a breakout if he can get some run this winter.
Kaleo Kakalia – 6’5 SF 2022 – Mishawaka Marian (IN)
Kaleo is a big, very strong wing that does a little bit of everything. He’s got a ton of skill but maybe no high-end one that he leans toward in his game. He does play with a ton of effort and that along with his athleticism and strength allows him to score in transition, on rebounds, or mixing up on some paint touches. He can guard pretty much any position and gives you max versatility with his defensive presence.
Leland Walker – 5’9 PG 2022 – North Central (IN)
Leland is looking more and more like the best guard in the state in 2022. He was super aggressive and had a few times where he went and showed some elite athleticism for his size. His feel for the game is unmatched and he can really set his teammates up as well as anyone. Add in that he is a high-end shooter, he has that balance of offense scorer and setup that just makes everyone around him play at their highest level.
Dayton Devaughn – 6’9 C 2022 – Martinsville (IN)
Dayton is a legit post prospect who is starting to put some things together. He’s gotten to the point to where he can really get the ball in the post, whether by catch or on rebounds, and then make a move to score. He will typically go to the little hook or be more physical and just bum rush the defender. Needs to slow down a bit and get to where his finishing is more efficient but he’s close.
