Today, we have our look at some of the top players from the event as we take a dive into the 2021 prospects from this past Sunday.
Ayden Brobston – 6’6 PF 2021 – Frankton (IN)
Ayden is a lean forward who does look like he has put on some weight. He’s really raw in his scoring ability but he did show he can knock down a shot. The lean frame is starting to bulk up a bit and maybe that will give him some confidence to grow. He’s really interesting as a prospect and if this is the start, he could be in line for a productive and exposing year.
Kaden McCollough – 6’2 PG 2021 – Shenandoah (IN)
Kaden played really well, showcasing all of his game. He was knocking down shots from deep with a great release and touch. On top of that, he looks taller and a bit stronger and going against the players he did, he looked more able to match up with them than he would have a year ago. He should stay on the ball and has quite a bit of upside if the shooting becomes even more apparent this season.
Shamar Avance – 6’1 PG 2021 – Lawrence North (IN)
Shamar is a tall lead guard who has taken some clear steps forward in the last year. He’s tall and long with some speed and he looks more poised to use that in his game now. Best when he can get out in the open floor because he has the size and vision to make plays. He also looks a little stronger on the frame too. Did shoot the ball fairly well from distance in the game we watched. Needs to open up the RPMs and go a little more this year.
Donavon Barnett – 6’4 SF 2021 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
Donavon was pretty good, showcasing his shooting a little bit. Built so well on the perimeter and has that touch to take him beyond the arc. Defensively, he can give you so many options and at times you can see him switching up on post players in a pinch. Had a really nice step-back three and a few others off the catch. Want to see a little more slashing and toughness in the lane but he’s pretty well rounded right now.
Jayden Brewer – 6’5 SF 2021 – Avon (IN)
Jayden is a slight wing with a ton of athleticism and uses that so well. He’s become a more well-rounded defender as he can play up on guards and wings too. He’s just gotten better at creating issues with his length and then taking advantage of it. He’s not a shooter so that helps to keep his scoring up. Would like to see him develop a jumper but if it involves the ball in his hands and in the open floor, he is among the best. Might have grown a bit but still needs to add weight if possible.
Sean Black -5’9 PG 2021 – Warren Central (IN)
Sean is a quick, dynamic point guard who can really make plays. He was a little more impactful with his speed in these games. Can get in the lane as well as anyone and his size has never been a hinderance to his ability to finish. Did show his perimeter jumper a bit and looked like it might be a bit better. If so, that will go a long way into easing out his skill set. He is a tone setter with his energy.
Gus Etchison – 5’11 PG 2021 – Hamilton Heights (IN)
Gus is looking pretty locked in right now. He was really aggressive but still pretty effective. His athleticism is looking as good as ever and he had shown a little more control on his drives to the rim. Want to see him mixing his perimeter jumper in a little bit to help balance out his game but he was about as on top of things as anyone else we saw. A little more refinement to him.
J.R. Konieczny – 6’7 SF 2021 – South Bend St. Joseph (IN)
J.R. was really good in this one. He was more athletic and filled out than he has been before. He had one really nice drive down the lane for a dunk. The frame has a few more pounds on it and that is allowing him to be more powerful. Jumper was solid and he’s just improving in all areas. This looks like the prototypical breakout candidate for the upcoming season to confirm his level as a Notre Dame commit.
Curt Hopf – 6’8 PF 2021 – Barr-Reeve (IN)
Curt is a big post player who can spread the floor. His jumper looked pretty locked in on Sunday as he knocked down a few off the catch. He’s more of a inside-out guy where he can be physical inside and then step out to shoot. He has improved his ball handling to the point where if he gets the right matchup, he can rip and drive, just not sure if it is something he can do against any matchup yet. Transferred from Forest Park to Barr-Reeve this summer.
Flynn Carlson – 6’7 PF 2021 – Victory Christian (IN)
Flynn is a long, lanky forward who can play either post spot. A little small as a center but has the length you want to help defend the rim. He was one of the better passers we saw on the day, finding his teammates in some tough spots and completing the play. He is still likely to grow from looking at the frame and if he can add some more strength, he might be a sneaky player to recruit. Was great in the half court because he’s mobile and good at getting out on the perimeter when needed.
Brennan Beausir – 6’5 PF 2021 – Bishop Chatard (IN)
Brennan is a solid forward who can give you a little versatility. Didn’t shoot it a ton but he can knock one down when needed. His release is a little long on his jumper and will need to clean that up. However, he’s so mobile and has enough strength on the frame that he can do a little bit of everything. He can mix it up as a post player, stretch to the wing and does defend 3/4 pretty well. Will need a little growth spurt if possible and touch up that jumper.
Ben Watkins – 6’5 SF 2021 – Muncie Central (IN)
Ben is a solid wing forward who can stretch the floor with his shooting. He’s a bit better as a slasher but it does look like the jumper could be a weapon for him. Big frame and had a little strength to him already. He put up 20 points in his first game of the day. Handles looked okay, will need some more creation ability to help long term but a bunch of upside right now.
