Continue ReadingWe have roughly 110 ranked players in the class of 2020 that we have gotten to watch and assess prior to this summer. But with a big summer where we made sure to get out to as many events as we could as well as finishing off the year we are adding to that list. We are a few more weeks away from the season and will be providing one more rankings update within that time. There are plenty of players that stood out and are being added to the list so without further ado, here are some combo-guards and wings that have surely made a case and will now join on the list.
Jalen Ashley – Rock Canyon
This is one of our biggest mistakes made and he will not only be making the list but going up with high regard. He is a proved winner that has shown the ability to play on and off the ball, has been productive in one of the best conferences in the state for years and on a team that plays smart slow it down and grind it out basketball is still able to score the ball. Ashley does it all. He defends at a high level, is able to attack the rim and finish, shows off his athleticism in the open court and also gets others involved. He is a top-40 player in the class and this is a season in which I think he elevates his game as a scorer as well. Mistakes happen, we can admit fault here.
Valentinas Ulinas – Overland
Ulinas is a transfer from Nevada that is heading into a really good Overland team that will be one of the favorites in the state and he is going to impress. We already know it. He plays in such an unorthodox way and does so many of the little things that you look up and are unaware that he has put the opposing team in a hole. He sets up for charges, he’s lethal in the pick and roll and scores in every way imaginable. I am excited to see how he and this Overland team are going to adapt as I think he is best with the ball in his hands as a creator but they have so many pieces and the state’s best big man in the middle as well. It will be interesting to see which direction they go with. Regardless, expect him to stuff the box score each night although it may not look like it in the scoring department. Unsure where we will place him as we have only seen him play a few times but he is definitely capable of starting in the middle of the pack.
Micah Lamberth – Classical Academy
Lamberth became one of my favorites this summer and I am honestly shocked that we did not have him on the list, maybe it is due to being at a smaller school, I am unsure but he is a prospect that most definitely deserves recognition. This is a player that can honestly play positions 1-4 and also showed his versatility during the season as well in grassroots this summer. He put up 12.4 points, six rebounds and four assists a game – that’s range. He is a scorer that works both inside and out, has good size and plays under control. He will be middle of the pack as well and push for more without a doubt.
SF/PF: Tayvis Sagrillo Smiley – Littleton — Sr.
Tayvis was a player last year that put up 14 points and eight rebounds a game last season for Littleton as he stood out as their most consistent force. He had to take on the scoring load as well as help on the boards and defense as well. He got to the paint and finished and while the team did not win he was a bright spot. His production will have to lead to wins if he wants to move up the list but he deserves to be there.
Bryson Stephens – Arapahoe
Stephens is a player that is absolutely deserving of being on the list and had Arapahoe won a few more games he would very well be here. They are in the toughest league in the entire state and every night was a dog fight and he was still able to put up just under 14 points a game. He is a competitor that does not shy away from big games, he was matchup proof for the most part of the season and he was able to get exactly what he wants on the court. He is difficult to stay in front of, he’s selfless on the court and plays with a chip on his shoulder. This is another player that we dropped the ball on that has so many intangibles that translate to the next level. He should definitely have some small schools on him and he has a big season ahead of him and will jump into our top 50 players in the class without a doubt. Must-watch player.
