Some players have to wait their turn. Maybe they have seniors in front of them, or perhaps it’s simply taken them some time to develop. In this article PH takes a look at some of the players in the C/O 2021 poised to have breakout seasons.
Anthony Swift 6’6 SF Desert Pines – Swift falls under the category of a player who missed the previous season. He clearly has the tools. A fluid 6’6 athlete who can run the floor, and protect the rim. Playing for a talented DP squad, Swift is going to have ample opportunities to make impactful plays in big games.
Ethan Speaker 6’6 SF Boulder City – Speaker may end up having the biggest breakout of any player in the state. He goes a bit unnoticed because he plays for a small school, however he can flat out hoop. A scoring machine that has a chance to lead the state in that category. Speaker is a knock down shooter that can create a shot for himself. Moves well without the ball using backdoor cuts and screens to create easy baskets.
Emanuel “mooch” Austin 6’0 SG Legacy – Austin is a scoring machine. The 6’0 dynamo has a lighting quick first step, and creates space to get his shot off. No wasted motion. Austin is efficient with his decision making, and shot selection. One of the rare high school players that still understands how to use the mid- range game.
Coleman Lemke 6’7 SF Faith Lutheran – Lemke is prepared to breakout in more than one way. A JV player last season, a big part of Lemke’s potential has to do with his recent growth spurt. He’s going to be a matchup nightmare, as opposing coaches try to determine who to put on him. It will be exciting to watch Lemke make plays for his teammates.
Zach Jefferson 6’2 SG Shadow Ridge – Jefferson is another JV player ready to make a name for himself. He can do it with his scoring and playmaking. Jefferson is the type of player that’s not great at any one thing, but is good at everything. His situation is perfect as well. Plays surrounded by shooters, which should open up driving lanes for him.
Rameses Nabong 6’5 C Foothill – I’m expecting Nabong’s breakout year to come in the form of wins for the Falcons. Unselfish player that is willing to do anything necessary for his team to win. In games that he doesn’t score, expect him to still have an impact. Tough physical rebounder, that is the heart and soul of the team.
Robel Negasi 6’3 SF Las Vegas – Negasi is really starting to come into his own. High IQ player that has a good skill set. Negasi can defend, and rebound and should also provide scoring for a young Wildcats team.
