Dashien Nix 6’5 Trinity #1 – Any list of point guards has to start with Nix. I’m on board with the generational passer assessment. His combination of vision and delivery ability is exceptional, and if he only had those two skills, he would still be a high major player. When you start factoring in his elite finishing ability you can start understanding why the UCLA commit is projected as the top PG in the 2020 class. Great size which allows him to easily see over the top of defenders.
Anthony Hunter 5’11 Durango #6 – What Nix is to the offensive side, Hunter brings to the D. Elite on ball defender. Hunter has the quickness to turn ballhandlers and then beat them to the spot. Offensively he has shown the ability to transition from a shoot first lead guard, to a pure pg that can create plays for his team. Good run and jump athlete who has several low major offers.
Kevon Ferguson 6’1 Desert Valley Prep #9 – Ferguson is a great addition to the city. The lefty boost the PG class to another level. Smooth in catch and shoot situations, has a creative handle, and understands P&R offense.
Alexander Spaight 6’0 Canyon Springs #15 – Spaight has recently seen his stock rise. He has a little bit of everything in his bag. Can’t give him space, because he’ll bury jumpers. Play him close and he can blow right by you. Should have the ball in his hand quite a bit for a talented Canyon Springs squad. Gaining interest from several schools including the hometown Rebels, Utah St and Portland.
Nathan Van 6’2 Desert Oasis #28 – Van is a prototypical PG. He’ll control the tempo and set up his teammates. Love that he plays alongside scoring machine Dom Ford, because it allows him to play to his strengths. Great handle, advanced passer and good paint finisher.
Travis Thomas 5’8 Foothill #34 – Mark my words, there will be a game this season where Thomas absolutley goes off. He’s a bucket that can catch fire in an instant. Capable of playing on and off the ball, it’s going to be a lot of fun watching him play for a motivated Foothill team this year.
Kendall Burrell 5’10 Bonanza #35 – Burrell, Thomas, and Davis are all similar players IMO. Like Thomas, Burrell can catch fire in an instant. He is a knock down shooter that loves to create space off the bounce. Burrell is kind of a combination of Thomas and Davis. Better slasher than Thomas, more consistent shooter than Davis.
Dante Davis 5’10 Liberty #38 – Speaking of Davis, he’s the best driver out of the 3. Ridiculously quick first step. Davis is an elite penetrating guard that can get into the paint anytime he wants. Probably the best defender out of the three. Thomas and Davis are going to go head to head in conference twice this season. Whoever gets the better of that match-up will probably go a long way to determining the winning team.
