Continue ReadingSaturday morning, some of the state’s top freshmen made their way to the Kentucky Basketball Commission in Lexington for the KBC Freshman Showcase. The day consisted of skill work, station work including 3 on 3 and then 5 on 5 games in the afternoon. Here’s a breakdown of the day’s top performers.
Samuel Parrish, Tates Creek – Selected as the top overall performer at camp, Parrish was a standout in the drill as well as in the 5 on 5 part of the day. Growing into being a floor general, his communication has improved as far as directing traffic on offense and defense but he is going to have to improve his on ball defense moving forward.
Adam Hobbs, Central Hardin – Hobbs physically resembles his older brother Jacob and that’s a good thing for his basketball prospects. Jacob is a freshman at Lipscomb and Adam looks like he could be the same type of long athlete that Jacob is. Adam has a bigger frame but doesn’t have the same type of motor (yet) that got his brother multiple D1 scholarships last summer.
Tramane Alcorn, Lincoln County – I saw Alcorn multiple times this summer and was a big fan almost right away. Tramane is a big bodied guard who can score the ball and will be a big varsity contributor this season for one of the favorites in the 12th region. He caught cramps and missed a lot of the 5 on 5 game play in the afternoon but did enough in the early part of the day to warrant mention on this list.
Gerard Thomas, Henderson County – Gerard was a player who I had never heard of before Saturday but is definitely on my radar now. Thomas is a tough, bully point guard that was able to beat his man off the dribble and get to the rim. I didn’t see him make many jump shots but that doesn’t mean he can’t shoot it. Henderson has a bright future.
Keith Robinson, DeSales – The runner up for MVP of camp and the winner of the Effort award, Robinson was impressive all day long. Standing about 6’3, Keith is physical and plays super hard. His IQ is obvious but I was most impressed with passing. For a kid who looks like a strereotypical post player, Robinson showed he can handle the ball and pass. He could translate to a solid wing player in the near future.
Will Bishop, Rockcastle County – Bishop could have the most long term potential of anyone who was in the building on Saturday. He was the first player I made a note about on Saturday and really passes the “eye test” when you’re looking for things like length and upside. Remains to be seen how much he will develop but Will is definitely one to keep an eye on.
