The day consisted of skill work, station work including 3 on 3 and then 5 on 5 games in the afternoon. Here’s a breakdown of some new names who played their way on to the radar on Sunday.
Hayden Frazier, East Jessamine – Frazier is small but he’s tough as nails. He competed against bigger guards all day long and was one of the best on ball defenders at camp. East Jessamine could use a heady point guard and Frazier will be a contributor down the line.
Colin Brown, Henry Clay – The younger brother of Keaston, Colin looks to follow in his brother’s footsteps as a tough point guard who can run a team and knock down open shots. He has a high basketball IQ and is likely going to be the starting point guard at Henry Clay by his Sophomore season.
Zorian Alcorn, Frederick Douglass – Alcorn is another kid who looks like a future varsity starter. He showed some impressive athleticism and was among the best prospects at camp when he was engaged and playing hard. If he can improve his motor, he can get varsity minutes this season.
Jake Rideout, Henderson County – One of the prospects who looks to have long term potential, Rideout is long and showed skill all day long at camp. He got lost in the 5 on 5 games at times but part of that was due to a lack of aggression when everyone else was being hyper-aggressive.
Jayden Marks, Bryan Station – Marks showed well early in the day, especially in stations and 3 on 3 drills. As the day wore on, he disappeared in games. If he can grow a few inches, he can become a nice wing player for the Defenders.
Mason May, Marion County – May is tough and competitive and wasn’t afraid to get into opposing players on the defensive end. Mason struggled with his shot at times on the day but showed his ability to get into the paint and finish through contact.
Mason Engle, Boyle County – Mason looked his best in the afternoon games, where he hit multiple shots from deep and competed very hard in every contest as other players dropped due to cramping. Engle may not help Boyle this season but he can be a long term contributor.
Mason Guffey, Grant County – Guffey passed the eye test as he went through drills and 3 on 3 work but couldn’t buy a bucket when the 5 on 5 games started in the afternoon. Guffey is a very long player and should keep improving as he adds weight and his body fills out.
