I had a chance to attend KB Sports Central Georgia Fall Showcase in Macon this Saturday. The gym was full of players looking to show spectators a preview of what’s to come when high school hoops tip-off.
There were quite a few players on the hardwood that got my attention with their sharp shooting, tough defense and flashy dunks.
Ryan Sharpe, 2021 SG at Rutland High School is one of the players you can’t take your eyes off of. Each possession, fans are eager to see what he will do next. Sharpe is fun to watch. He’s a creative scorer and has a mean crossover. The 6’0 shooting guard doesn’t shy away from contact, in fact, he thrives off of physicality. He has the ability to handle the basketball, generate offense and get to the basket. “I like to attack the rim or setup others to score,” said Sharpe. Despite being a threat on offense, he believes his greatest strength is defense.
Tyeem Mason, 2020 SF at Northeast High School had the crowd going crazy with his explosive dunks. His energy and enthusiasm set the gym on fire. Mason has hops, he’s bouncy and long. In addition, he’s an outstanding contributor on both ends of the floor. His blocking ability makes opponents think twice about taking a shot near the rim. He attacks the board, grabs offensive and defensive rebounds. “I’m good at getting to the hoop, playing defense and dominating in the paint,” said Mason.
Shannon Fountain, PG 2023 at Westside High School hasn’t missed a beat since I last seen him play. Over the summer I had a chance to see Fountain on the AAU circuit. He was a tenacious defender then and an even greater defender now. He’s a rare breed and a go-getter.”I know someone else is always working on their game, that’s what motivates me,” said Fountain. He plays with heart and grit. He’s the type of player that every coach aspires to have suit up for them. Whenever he steps on the floor you can guarantee he’s going to outwork everyone on the hardwood. I asked him how he thinks his game has improved since the summer, he said he’s a more coachable player now. “I approach the game with a different attitude. I’ve learned to not get upset with calls and I’ve slowed my game down,” said Fountain.
