Skill Evaluation
In addition to playing with a nice enough handle, Jaylen is efficient shooting from 10′. His baseline J is serviceable. If I am being picky, then the elevation of his feet from the ground could be higher. Obviously, the higher the release point the more difficult for a defender to alter or block. I always say this, but it bears repeating. As you ascend the basketball ladder defenders get taller and bouncier.
The touch of Jaylen’s shot is very soft and the ball gets up over the rim with a kindness, a gentleness.
Measurements
Jaylen Singh turns 18 early this season, so he should have the best athletic measurements of the event. He did very well at the vertical jump and was truly special in the telling Lane Agility Test. Lane Agility is simply the act of sprinting around the basketball lane (12′ x 16′ box) with lateral slides at both the baseline and the free throw line. Singh’s was the second best in his 11-person group. Only Marcus Williams (Clarksville Northeast) registered a faster time.
The hand size is average. His leaping ability is way above average for a high school hooper. Extremely explosive off the planks. Singh’s bounce equalled Jaden Davis (Dickson) at 34 inches.
