Cashion senior guard Jacob Woody believes that the Wildcats can make a big run in the 2019-2020 season.
“[I’m] looking forward to helping Cashion get to state,” Woody said, “Something that hasn’t happened since coach [John Hardaway] has been here.”
The 2A Wildcats finished 16-10 in 2019, including ranked wins against No. 4 Dale and state runners-up Hennessey, who was ranked second at the time. Woody had a big part to play in Cashion’s success last year.
Now entering his third season as a starter, the senior hopes to leave his mark at CHS.
“We had tremendous strides last year, winning the conference tournament,” Woody said. “We have all the pieces to make a good run but it needs to be put together.”
Woody is a left-handed scoring guard who, including his outstanding play at Cashion, has displayed great upside on the offensive side of the ball at various camps and showcases, including the Top 250 Expo in Oklahoma City a few weeks ago.
“I can get to the rim and create my own shot,” Woody said, “[also] play defense and create fast break points.”
Woody has an all-around skill-set at the shooting guard position that has benefitted each team he’s played on. He elevates to the basket and can finish well with either hand, as well, and is a remarkable shot-creator.
What you may not know about Woody is that he is also a two-sport athlete, competing on the baseball diamond in the spring for the Wildcats.
Despite his standing out in both sports, Woody said he is somewhat of a bashful character.
“I’m pretty shy, but I like to be around new people,” Woody said. “I’m also nice.”
A few NAIA schools have recruited Woody, including Tabor (Hillsboro, Kan.) and Southwestern College (Winfield, Kan.), though he has yet to receive his first offer.
