Filling up the scoring category, but losing the game and missing the bulk of shots is an example of a case where a player’s impact on the game is distorted. The PER statistic can be more helpful as it shows the impact a scorer has on a per minute basis. Here are Idaho’s top returning PER performers.
Riley Frith
The 5’11” senior isn’t merely the leading returning PER performer, but the leader overall. His PER prorated out for 32 minutes was 26.1 which almost amounts to a point a minute. He did shoot a mere 42, which shows that when he’s on the floor, he’s putting the ball up. If he can improve his shot selection you might see similar scoring with fewer minutes.
Jace Whiting
Jace enters his senior year with great expectations. He put up 23.9 points per 32 last year and did it while shooting 46 percent.
Briggs Ranstrom
Briggs is also a senior who put up 20.8 points per 32 minutes in his junior year. He shot 49 percent, making him very efficient. Watch for the 6’7” senior to improve on those numbers as he gets more touches in his senior year.
Townsend Tripple
Townsend’s 17.8 points per 32 minutes put him in the top four last year and therefore certainly a top returner. Townsend is also 6’7” and his size should continue to allow him to score with efficiency in his senior year.
