University City: The Lions played for a district championship a year ago and have several of those top kids back. They had victories over Lutheran St. Charles and Parkway North on Sunday. They are led by 6’5″ 2021 forward Jalen Hampton, an explosive player around the rim. The floor leader is 5’9″ 2022 point guard Larry Abbey, who can really pass the ball and run the show. The Lions also have a talented trio of wings in 6’3″ 2021 Brandon Mingo, 6’2″ 2021 Trayvon Robinson and 6’0″ 2021 shooter Justin Holland.
Fort Zumwalt North: The Panthers have one of the state’s top shooters in 6’6″ 2021 guard K.J. Lee, who put on a shooting exhibition against Parkway South. North also has some solid role players in 6’2″ 2020 forward Grant Fitzpatrick, 6’0″ 2020 guard Devan Edwards and 6’1″ forward George Prouhat. Sitting out the action was their top inside player in 6’6″ 2020 Mujtaba Alkhaldi and 5’9″ 2020 point guard Grant Rapplean. The Panthers have a chance to be a real factor this season.
Jennings: The Warriors will field a very young, but very talented group in 2020. The top returning player is 6’2″ 2021 guard Demarion Shanklin, who can get buckets from all three levels. Up front are a pair of long and athletic underclassmen in 6’4″ 2021 Jalen Craig and 6’5″ 2022 Amari Davis while 5’7″ 2022 Isaiah Payne is a nice point guard. The Warriors were missing 6’6″ 2021 forward Karl Moore on Sunday. He is a real beast on the boards.
Parkway South: The Patriots have a strong 1-2 punch in 6’3″ 2020 guard Adam Sommer and 6’9″ 2020 center Isaiah Esker. Sommer is a scoring threat from just about anywhere on the court while Esker is a strong inside player. 2020 guard Jack Crayton can knock down 3-pointers from long distance while fellow 2020 guard Luke Davis is a solid ball handler and passer.
Lafayette: The Lancers feature a strong backcourt performer in 6’3″ 2020 guard Ryan Campbell, who has the ability to score but also drop dimes. He was the best passer in the league. An up and coming talent is 6’6″ 2021 forward Michael Henneberry, who has good length and a big upside. 6’0″ 2020 guard K.D. Diaby is a nice slasher while 6’5″ 20200 forward Jack Clark is a young post player with potential.
St. Dominic: The Crusaders have a nice group of young perimeter players, which will make them quite competitive. The top returning player is 6’1″ 2021 guard Anthony Lewis, who can light it up from downtown. A big addition to the program is 6’2′ 2021 point guard Brendan Deters, who transferred over from Troy. 6’3″ 2022 guard Ryan Schwendeman is a young wing who can also shoot it from 3-point range.
Parkway North: The host Vikings played some competitive and very inspired basketball as they nearly pulled off a big victory over a talented University City team. They got a big game from 5’9″ 2021 guard Keashon Petty, who is quick and can score getting to the basket. 6’1″ 2022 guard Michael Berry is a talented young player who also made a lot of plays.
