The one day event featured 18 games inside the Colony high school gymnasium with highly recruited and under-the-radar players showing out in their respective games. Below you will find evaluations and analysis of the some of the most underrated guard performances of the day.
CJ Bellamy, Eastvale Roosevelt
Bellamy continued to make his case as one of the most explosive scoring guards in the area. The 5-foot-9 sophomore scores in bunches and can heat up in a hurry from 3-point range. Bellamy has a quickness and shiftiness to his game that makes him a tough cover in transition. He can score from all three levels of the floor and handed out the assist to teammate G Little which led to a game-winning 3-pointer.
Kyjuan Cannady, Santa Clarita Christian
Canandy has an intriguing combination of size and length at the point guard spot. The senior can play on or off the ball with his basketball IQ, vision and willingness to set up teammates and his ability to knock down the open catch and shoot 3-point shot. Cannady needs to add some strength to his frame to better absorb bumps and stay on balance when probing the paint.
Khemanni Davis, Rancho Verde
Davis is primed for a break out season as the Mustangs graduated two of their most important pieces from a team that qualified for the CIF Southern Section Open Division last season. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard has a strong frame and good base, which allows him to be an effective finisher in the paint. Davis also showed the ability to knock down open perimeter shots off the bounce.
Jeremiah Davis, Fountain Valley
Davis is wired to score and can do so in a variety of ways. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard is best in transition where he can get downhill and use his balance and change of direction to finish around the basket. The junior is more comfortable as a mid-range shooter as he operates out of rhythm dribbles and flow into his pull-up jumper. When engaged, there are few guards in Orange County with the ability to score like Davis.
Godfrey “G” Little knocked down a game-winning 3-pointer in Eastvale Roosevelt’s last-second win over Birmingham at the Hoops By Ugland Fall HS Showcase.Keith Hall, Riverside Hillcrest
Hall was one of the biggest surprises as I got my first look at Riverside Hillcrest. The 6-foot-2 junior has a well-built frame and good balance when attacking the basket and pulling up for his mid-range jumper. Hall plays with good pace off the wing and doesn’t force shots outside his team’s offensive scheme.
Godfrey “G” Little, Eastvale Roosevelt
Little has long been one of the top shooters in the area and his performance in the early game against Birmingham only solidified that fact. The 6-foot-1 junior gets great lift on his 3-point and mid-range jumpers and knows how to use the dribble and footwork to create space from defenders to create an open look for himself. Little hit the game-winning triple against Birmingham in the opening game of the event.
