The one day event featured 18 games inside the Colony high school gymnasium with highly recruited and under-the-radar players showing out in their respective games. Below you will find evaluations and analysis of the some of the best guard performances of the day.
Top Guards (Part I)
Jake Blazona, Santa Margarita
Blazona is your prototypical floor general. While he’s not the biggest, most athletic or most explosive players on the floor, but he’s as efficient as they come when running an offense and taking care of the basketball. One thing that stands out most about the 5-foot-10 junior is his leadership, especially verbally, on both ends of the floor. Blazona is always looking to set teammates up and may need to look for his own shot more this season when the opportunity presents itself.
Kylan Boswell, Colony
Boswell is kind of an uncanny case for an incoming freshman prospect because of the fact that he has very few holes in his game. The 6-foot point guard has a feel and basketball IQ well beyond his years. He makes the right reads in transition and out of high ball-screen action. Boswell can hit the open catch and shoot 3-point shot or create for his teammates with pinpoint passing in the half-court setting.

Butler continues to make small, but impressive strides each and every year. He’s still one of the more polished and poised true point guards in SoCal, but the San Diego State commit has become more confident with his 3-point shooting and is a more explosive athlete even compared to last year. Butler, a senior, capped his impressive two-game effort with a poster dunk in transition.
Corey Cofield, Birmingham
Cofield is one of the more athletic shooting guards in the region and he made sure to show that often during the Patriots two close games. The 6-foot-5 junior is shot out of a cannon in transition and is in constant attack mode when he gets downhill. Cofield has the strength to absorb and finish through contact, but he can also rise up, avoid shot blockers, and finish with body control.
David Elliot, Birmingham
Elliot is one of the best tough shot makers in all of SoCal. Sometimes that shot selection can be a little shaky, but the 6-foot-2 junior makes it pay off with a tough bucket. Elliot has taken a positive stride with his playmaking, especially when getting off the ball and advancing it in transition and has also heightened his motor on the defensive end.
