Today, I will go over some players who I think have a solid shot at winning the award. These are my preseason predictions so only time will tell!
DaRon Holmes 6’9 2021 F Millennium
Holmes was a finalist for player of the year last season for AZ Central. I think he will make a strong case for the award this season. Millennium is my favorite to win state this season, Holmes will be up a crazy state line like last season, and that should be enough to win him the award. It also doesn’t hurt that Holmes has grown into a nationally known player.
Ty Ty Washington 6’3 2021 G Cesar Chavez
I could easily see Ty Ty winning the award as well, for all of the same reasons as Holmes. The only difference is that they play in different conferences. If Chavez wins state, I think he’ll have a solid case for the award.
Evan Nelson 6’2 2020 G Salpointe Catholic
Nelson is in the same boat at Holmes and Washington. I think his team will likely win state and he is the best player on his team and one of the best guards in state. Nelson was also a finalist for player of the year last season with AZ Central.
