Continuing our breakdown of conferences, let’s take a look at the KMAC!
Predictions:
Lincoln Cunningham takes a big step for Fredericktown: A Cunningham led the KMAC in scoring last season, but it wasn’t Lincoln, but his brother Nick. With Nick graduating the Freddies lose 17.6 points a game just from him alone. Last season Lincoln was good for almost 13 a game as a sophomore. With another year of varsity hoops under his belt he should be ready for the task ahead. Fredericktown will need their new “alpha” and Lincoln could be that guy.
Carter Jones will lead the conference in scoring: The best prospect in the KMAC is easily Carter Jones. At 6-4 Jones is a matchup for bigs because he can stretch them out to the perimeter as well as handle the ball. Centerburg needs his scoring and he will definitely put up numbers. As a sophomore Jones scored 16.9 points a game, good for second in the conference. Look for that number to go up as he’s gotten stronger, quicker and a more complete player. The junior will have plenty of favorable opportunities. Don’t be surprised to see a 20 point average for the junior Trojan.
Highland will need a new face to step up: Highland has been near the top of things since the making of the KMAC. Last season winning the league with a 12-2 in conference record, the Scots were tough to beat. Their best player graduated who was big time for them. Mack Anglin is now at Clemson playing basketball and Highland is in need of another player to emerge. Also, losing guard Andrew Wheeler will be big for the Scots. If Highland wants to repeat it’s going to take a lot of replacing.
Northmor should compete per usual as of late: Last season Northmor was 8-6 in conference and finished fourth. They have their best player back in senior forward Blake Miller. Miller was huge for them last season averaging around 13 points and 7 rebounds. Miller is a workhorse and can’t be stopped by many in the league. The Knights also return Hunter Mariotti Who was huge for them inside last year and on the boards. Expect Northmor to compete with the best in the league if guard play is there.
East Knox could take that next step: East Knox was 7-7 in conference last year, but return their best player Weston Melick. Melick scored 14.4 points a game and added 6.7 rebounds last season and could be in store for a big boost with the Bulldogs. If this team is built around Melick this year, which it could be they could end up being solid. A lot of unknowns, but it’ll be interesting to watch for.
