It could be returning from injury, defending a title, or simply proving people wrong. That chip provides athletes with a fire in their belly to get it done. Here are five 2020 prospects with a chip on their shoulder:
Kam Woods (Pinson Valley)- No doubt this kid plays with a chip on his shoulder. People judge his size, the way he plays, and his production. Many have been critical of this kid, myself included, but it is all out of love. Kam can play. Offensively, there are not many better with the ball in their hands. He is not afraid of the big moment or taking any shot. If he wants to play at a high level than what is recruiting him, Kam needs to be more efficient. It is that simple.
Dallas Howell (Enterprise)- This 6’7 forward was being recruited at the MM level and unfortunately was injured in the spring. Dallas needs to show teams he still can play at that level. He’s got good positional size and is a very good shooter. Playing without any setbacks is important for this prospect.
Thaddeus Williams (Bessemer City)- Thad is one of the best point guards in the surrounding Birmingham area. This kid is fearless and knows how to score the ball. He didn’t play on a flashy AAU program in the spring. I think this kid is under recruited and ready for a big senior season. Thad just needs to compete at a high level and show consistency.
Paulia Stromaglia (Mountain Brook)- Mountain Brook’s point guard was being recruited at the LM level before injury last season. Stromaglia is a gifted passer, great defender, and outstanding floor leader. This kid has college point guard written all over him. He’s another prospect that needs to play without any setbacks. Getting the Spartans back to the BJCC won’t hurt.
Kobe Simmons (Talladega)- Kobe is a 6’4 forward who does everything for his team. This kid is probably the least talked about returning AHSAA class player of the year. Kobe knows how to play the game. I expect this prospect to have an even bigger season and lead Dega back to the BJCC.
