Over 24 programs participated in the league, providing me with an opportunity to see a ton of prospects. In this article PH takes a look at the players that impressed the most during the 6 week league.
Ethan Speaker 6’6 SF Boulder City 2021 (#20PHN 2021) – Speaker was the most consistent player throughout the league. The clear cut best player on the floor every game he played in. Has the ability to be a dominant wing player over the next two years. Knock down shooter with above average athletic ability.
Kevon Ferguson 6’1 PG Desert Valley Prep 2020 – Ferguson only played a couple games in the league, however easy to see his value. Pure PG lefty that showed the ability to get any shot he wanted. Combines good 3 point shooting with the ability to get into the lane off the bounce.
Craig Comanche 6’0 PG Centennial 2021 (#15PHN 2021) – Comanche is a modern day position less player. When he joined LMBA towards the end of the league, he brought a whole new dimension to the squad. Good athlete that understands his strengths. Great at putting his head down and attacking the rim. Was the best defender in the League. Despite losing their 3 leading scorers from a year ago, expect Centennial to be among the top teams in their conference again thanks to players like Comanche.
John Board 6’0 SG Basic 2021 – John Board brings it every night. Elite competitor. Basic may not be the most talented team, however he’s their best player, and he doesn’t back down from anyone. Was really impressed with his willingness to defend. Hard driving competitor that finishes through contact.
Amari James 6’4 SG Spring Valley 2020 (#46PHN 2020) – James is one of the sleepers in the area. During the league I got a better understanding of his strengths and weaknesses. Capable of exploding at any time. James simply has to do it on a consistent basis. Intriguing prospect with the frame and skill-set to dominate this season.
Kade Madsen 6’0 SG Palo Verde 2020 (#21PHN 2020) – Madsen wears a Ninja style bandana. It’s appropriate considering he plays with reckless abandon. I was extremely impressed by his athleticism. He routinely showed the ability to get to the rim and finish over defenders. Plays for a well disciplined, effort driven Palo Verde team.
Dontrell Johnson 6’4 PF Bonanza 2022 (#7PHN 2022) – Johnson impressed with his strengths. Proved to be one of the best players in the league from 15 feet in. He has good size, length and athleticism. He was a match-up nightmare for most of the league. To big for smaller guys, to quick for bigger players. With the loss of Chris Dockery, Johnson is going to have to take on a larger role for the Bengals this season.
