Well at Fab 40 camp over the years we have seen players lock in on the defensive of the ball which has ultimately led to some very competitive games.
Laney HS 2021 Guard Makoa Surigao: We have seen him knock down shots from three point land numerous times last season and we are sure that he will bring that to the table during this high school season. However during Camp, he brought the defensive intensity that you love to see from a player as he was constantly applying pressure without fouling and using his lateral quickness to beat man to the spot.
Northwood Temple 2020 Guard Jay Hickman: He’s one of the better three point shooters in the area, and showcased his ability to knock down the trey ball with efficiency on a regular basis. One of the more underrated parts of his game is his ability to defend at a very high level against quick guards. Hickman comes in at about 6’3 with a long wingspan which he understands how to use in his favor, he came up with a good amount of steals which allowed his team to get out into transition.
Playing the game with a high motor is another attribute that you love to see from players in camp settings. These players in particular did not take plays off and were constantly looking for ways to impact the game.
Fayetteville Christian 2020 Forward Daunte Gardner: At about 6’2 he’s not necessarily a player that will be your prototypical Forward, but he more than makes up for what he lacks in height with his athletic ability and motor. He doesn’t take plays off and is constantly working for rebounds, loose balls, and to provide his team extra possessions. Scoring wise he lived in the paint and was efficient finishing with both hands against just about any type of defender he faced.
First Flight 2020 Guard Dylan Blake: He’s known for his shooting ability but trust us, he can impact the game in numerous other ways besides scoring. On the defensive side of the ball he was solid and did not back down from anybody that he was matched up with. His most impressive feat was his ability to rebound the ball as a guard that’s only 6’, he simply out worked and out thought his opponents to snatch down rebounds.
New Life Christian 2020 Guard Dahaun Jones: His end to end speed on the court is simply impressive, he doesn’t take his foot off the gas for any reason and can be a difficult player to defend. When he’s applying full court pressure on his opponent, he can cause all types of havoc and frustration which leads to some rushed possessions and turnovers.
