The DMV trio is back with another edition of the DMV Roundtable. The season continues to loom closer, which means….prediction time! We cover a few hot topics that can always start up some debate.
1. Which player do you think will see the biggest increase in his numbers due to an increase in role?
Giacubeno: In terms of numbers, I think Dulaney’s Ryan Conway is going to explode this season. The Lions lost a couple of key players to transfer, meaning that Conway will have to pick up the scoring load a bit. It should be no issue for the 6-foot-1 point guard as he displayed with his efficiency throughout the EYBL Circuit. He reached the 30-point mark multiple times last season. I expect that number to approach as high as 7-to-10 games this year.
Ayalew: Ishmael Leggett from St. John’s. Casey Morsell, Darius Maddox, and Devon Savage provided a heavy dose of scoring for the Cadets last year. Expect Leggett to help pick up a lot of the slack in that department.
Wilson: I think Devon Savage from Riverdale Baptist is a guy that could improve his recruitment with a big year. The move to Riverdale will provide him more minutes with the ball in his hands which should allow him to put up some bigger numbers then last year while he was at St. John’s. Savage is a good shooter from all areas on the floor and we should see an impact from him right away at Riverdale.
2. Predict the champions for your the leagues you cover closest.
Giacubeno: MIAA: St. Frances BCL: St. Frances; Baltimore City: Poly Baltimore County: New Town
Ayalew: WCAC: Gonzaga, IAC: SSSAS, MAC: Sidwell, DCIAA: Wilson, Capital Beltway: Rock Creek.
Wilson: WCAC
: Gonzaga
IAC: St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes
MAC: St. Andrew’s
3. If you had to put together a starting five with any players currently playing high school in the DMV, what would that lineup look like?
Giacubeno: It’s no secret that they’re are a TON of talented, high-level players in the DMV. With that being said, there are a handful of different lineups that you could choose and not be wrong. For me though, it’d look something like this:
Ace Baldwin
Jeremy Roach
Earl Timberlake
Justin Lewis
Hunter Dickinson
Ayalew: I would have a lineup featuring two-point guards: Jeremy Roach and Ace Baldwin. It would be a small-ball lineup, so I’d go with Earl Timberlake and Terrance Williams as the forwards and Justin Lewis at the five.
Wilson: Oh boy, this is a tough one as there are multiple options to plug in to make a starting five. If I had to put my best lineup out there, I would go with this.
Jeremy Roach
Ace Baldwin
Earl Timberlake
Justin Lewis
Hunter Dickinson
