Pre-Season Player of the Year:
This year player of the year candidate goes to the reigning player of the year in Tramon Mark. He is a University of Houston commit and was player of the year last season where he averaged 26 points per game, brought down 5.6 rebounds per game, dished out 4.4 assists per game, had his hand in the cookie jar with an 2.4 steals per game average. This will be his fourth year as a Varsity starter and has a total of 1,964 points already and will hit the 2,000 point mark more than likely in his first game of the season.
Team to Beat:
The team to beat will once again be the Dickinson Gators as they tore threw the district last season and are a heavy favorite to compete for a UIL State Title this season. They are already ranked 4th in the TABC polls. Last season they went 11-1 in district play and 21-9 overall and fell in the second round of the playoffs. They will be lead by their three headed monster in seniors Tramon Mark (Houston), Deuce Guidry, and Marcus Williams (Northern Colorado). They will also receive great contributions from these seniors as well who are very bouncy Jabari Miller and Xzaviour Borderlon.
Biggest Threat:
Clear Lake Falcons should be the next best team in the district and will be the biggest threat. Although they were a senior oriented team last season you can expect big play from current senior Jaja Sanni (UTSA) who was the offensive MVP of the district last season. He averaged 13.1 points per game, was dropping dimes with a 4.7 assists per game average, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. Expect him to put up some big numbers for the Falcons this year.. Last season they went 10-2 in District play and 28-7 overall as the made it to the second round of the playoffs. They will also have solid contributions from senior guard Caleb Wright and sophomore point guard Alex Lee.
Sleeper:
Clear Creek Wildcats will be the team the no one in the district should be over-looking. This young team only loss four seniors from last year team but return two of their best prospects in sophomore point guard Seth Jones who was District Newcomer of the year last season and junior guard Maurice Pinnock an All-District 2nd team member from last season. Last year they went 9-3 in district play and finished 23-9 overall after an first round exit of the playoffs last season. Expect them to be just as successful this season and they may even finish as the second best team in the district.
