Pre-Season Player of the Year:
These three prospects will be favorites to win the District MVP this season. first we will start with Michael Imariagbe a 6’7 combo forward who can stretch out the floor and score from both beyond the arc and inside the paint. Last season he averaged 9 points per game and 8 rebounds per game as well as swatted away 1.3 blocks per game and came away with 1.3 steals per game. He had a really good Spring/Summer. Peter McKey a 5’11 point guard will be the best returning scorer from last season as a sophomore where he averaged 12.4 points per game. He is a modern point and shot 38 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc. Blessing Adespie a 6’6 small forward last season averages where 7.3 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. His game has improved the most out of every player in his district as he had a super strong Spring/Summer season. Don’t get caught under the rim on this prospect or jump with him unless you want to end up on a highlight reel. He has filled out his body and looked really smooth with the ball in his hands.
Team to Beat:
Dawson Eagles has been to the playoffs nine years in a row and looking to make it back to the playoffs this year to make it a decade strong. They come back in as a favorite to win district despite the loss of some top prospects from last year. They finished the season last year with an 11-3 district record and went 26-9 overall where they fell in the third round of the playoffs. They return two sophomores that will have a big impact for this squad in Ziare Walker and Conlie Christmas.
Biggest Threat:
George Ranch Longhorns have also reloaded for the season as they move up a lot of good JV players from last season. Coach Jones will have his squad ready to roll as they start their season in San Antonio this year at the Alamo City Hoops Classic. Last year they went They will be led by junior point guard Stephen Woods who played big minutes last season on a senior heavy team. They will also receive solid contributions from Gerald Sapp-JR and Julian Camper-JR.
Sleeper:
Alief Hastings will be a sleeper in the district with a nice back court of junior point guard Peter McKey and senior shooting guard Caleb Phillips who combined for 50 percent of last season points for the team. They will also have good contributions from Oscar Banks 6’6 power forward. Expect for the Bears to make a lot of noise in their district this year as they compete for the fourth spot in the district.
