Pre-Season Player of the Year:
Here is the favorite to win District MVP. Javon Jackson is the returning player of the year from last season as a sophomore. He is a big time scorer who is a three point specialist but can take his defender off the dribble every time. He is a tough nosed on-ball defender. Can play the point or off the ball. He is expected to have another big year for Summer Creek. These two prospects will have huge senior seasons Marquice Scott of Pasadena Dobie is a strong point guard who plays bully ball when going down hill. He can shoot the ball from deep and also will dunk on you. He has one offer on the table from New Orleans University right now. Jalen White of Pasadena Sam Rayburn will also be a big threat in the district this year. He is committed to Ohio University. He can shoot the long ball, has a nice mid-range pull-up game, and can get to the basket as well. He was hindered by injuries last season as a junior but had a great Spring/Summer and will have a big senior year.
Team to Beat:
Humble Summer Creek comes back in as the favorites to win district again as they swept the field last year going a whopping 16-0 in district play and 26-7 overall on the season. They fell in the second round of the playoffs and look to push further than that this year. They will be led by junior Javon Jackson which is a top prospects in the State and was crowned District MVP last year. Coach Coleman will have his team ready as they will press you the entire game with a nice rotation to keep fresh legs in. You can also add these prospects to the list who will be a handful for the Summer Creek Bulldogs Dylen Scales-SR, Dylan Miles-SR the new guy, Jaylen Johnson-SO, and Reyce Allen-JR.
Biggest Threat:
Humble Atascocita who is always one of the top teams and a known playoff contender, and has been to the playoffs fro the last six consecutive years. They had a down year according to a lot of people who had them to finish 1st in the newly formed district last year. The eagles went 11-5 in district play and 25-10 overall and they loss in the first round of the playoffs. They will be a threat this season with two top prospects in the State of Texas in senior combo guard Dylan Dawson and junior shooting guard Tom Hart III. Other prospects will also add some fire power for the Eagles in Trey Davenport-SR, Kaleb Stewart-JR, David Martinez-SO, and Cameron Morrison-JR.
Sleeper:
Humble Kingwood Mustags who missed the final spot in the district with a 7-9 district record and went 16-19 overall. Expect for the Mustangs to lock up that fourth spot in the district and qualify for the playoffs. They will be led by Billy Gould who received the newcomer of the District award which is given to first time Varsity players. They should receive good contributions from Walker Blaine-SR and Jake Nichols-JR.
