Pre-Season Player of the Year:
This season MVP race will be between these two prospects. Justin Hill a modern point who has a quick first step and wont hesitate to put you in the rim. He was a All-District 1st team player last year and has a couple of NCAA D1 offers on the table. Jemarcus Holt could be big time for Elkins High School. Although he has transferred within the District he will still be a problem and is the highest returning varsity scorer from last season. He is long and athletic look and can score inside and outside.
Team to Beat:
Fort Bend Bush will be the favorite to win the district this season. The Broncos went 11-3 finishing in 2nd place in their district last year. Finished with an overall record of 26-11 and made it regional semi-finals (4th round) of the playoffs. They are returning four starters from last years team in seniors point guard DJ Stewart, guard Braelon Joe, wing Danny McAdory, and big Stephen Faramade. They will also be adding in transfer shooting guard Ethan Yancy and the diaper dandy Tyler Smith who already holds an offer from the University of Houston.
Biggest Threat:
Fort Bend Travis won’t lay down for anyone. They will return a key player in MVP favorite senior point guard Justin Hill. They will receive great contributions from junior guard Cam Oliver and sophomore small forward Cam Crockett who holds multiple D1 offers. The Tigers finished 25-11 overall and went 10-4 in district play where they finished in 3rd place. They also made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs last season. Although they lose two prospects who have went on to play collegiate ball they will still be a force in their district.
Sleeper:
Fort Bend Elkins was senior oriented last season, but don’t sleep on Elkins. They have a new transfer who is the returning top varsity scorer in the district with an average from last season at 15.8 points per game in senior Jemarcus Holt. Two familiar face from last season in juniors Jacolby Harris who is the returning starting point guard and Shane Bell who had a limited role but has been lighting it up all fall ball. They will also have a diaper dandy in Chris Johnson who will look very seasoned when he steps foot on the hardwood. Last year the Knights went 31-8 overall and 13-1 in district play. They had an overtime thrilling loss in the regional semi-final(4th round) of the playoffs last season.
