Pre-Season Player of the Year:
This prospect is the favorite to be crowned as MVP once again, and that’s no other than Pierce Spencer who had a very dominant season last year. He averaged 22.3 points per game, grabbed an average of 7.2 rebounds per game, dished out 3.9 assists per game, and came away with 2.6 steals per game. He also shot 53 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc as he led the district in made trey balls with 65 makes.
Team to Beat:
Lake Creek Lions will be the team to beat this season. Last season was their first season as a Varsity squad and they finished in third place in the district with a 10-6 record and finished with a 15-20 overall record and fell in the first round of the playoffs. With this being their second season expect big growth from them as that experience last season as well as some players making big strides in the grassroots season as well to be the team to beat. They will be led by senior captain and district MVP Pierce Spencer. Last year’s district newcomer award winner will also be a big factor in junior Hudson Boyd. This 1-2 punch will be tough night in and night out. They will receive great contributions from senior Noah Cantu and junior Ty George.
Biggest Threat:
Willis Wildkats will be the biggest threat in the district this year. Last season they went 12-4 in district play where they finished 2nd place and went 18-16 overall and lost in the first round of the playoffs. This year they will be a junior heavy team and bring back two all-district players in juniors Ja’Kobe McCoy a post player and Ja’Len Moore the two-guard. Both prospects are good rebounders and defensive-minded players. They will also receive good offensive contributions from senior lead guard Kudaveon Thergood.
Sleeper:
Tomball Cougars will be the sleeper team in the district this year. Expect big play from the two freshman who should come in and make a lot of noise for them in Wyatt Boeker and Jesse Fuller. They both have nice size and can shoot the leather off the ball and Fuller will dunk on you as well. Taylor Briggs the junior point will lead the team as their floor general, he was also an All-District 2nd Team member from last year as a sophomore. Last season they missed the playoffs 5th in the district with an 8-8 district record and 16-16 overall record.
