Pre-Season Player of the Year:
The pre-season MVP race will be between these two prospects. The first prospect is Reece Peel. Reece is a big shooting guard who can lite you up from deep as well as take you off the dribble to the rim. He had a really big Spring/Summer during the Grassroots season and looks to carry it into the season. Jaylen Wysinger will also be a threat to run for District MVP. The junior had a big season last year and was the third-best scorer in the district.
Team to Beat:
The team to beat in the district this season will be College Station A&M Consolidated Tigers. The tigers had a good season last year as they finished in third place in the district going 11-3 and finished 27-6 overall on the season as they made a second-round exit. They have a pre-season player of the year candidate in senior Reece Peel. They also return all there starters from last season with two all-district 1st team seniors in Nate Floyd and Jaylen Harrison. They will be accompanied by two all-district 2nd team seniors in Tim Bradford and Bryce Smith. Expect for Coach Dimery to have this group ready to go.
Biggest Threat:
Katy Paetow Panthers will be a big threat to the district. After coming off their inaugural varsity season last year and going 6-8 in district play and 11-20 overall expect a big-time turn around from last season. They have a prospect who has landed some NCAA Division 1 offers in sophomore big Charles Chuckwu who will be a force in the paint on both sides of the ball, as well as sophomore guard Trevor Frank who was an All-District 1st team member as a freshman last season. Add in senior guards Davion Sargent who will dunk on anyone in the lane and David Bradley. The Panthers will be a force this season in their district.
Sleeper:
Teams not to sleep on is College Station Cougars and Bryan Rudder Rangers. Although both teams were senior-heavy last season and lost a lot of prospects. You can expect both teams to still be playoff contenders and finish top 4 in their district. College Station will be led by sophomore guard Patrick Chew who will be a bucket for them and Bryan Rudder will be led by sophomore shooting guard Dylan Glover who is a lights out shooter that has been displaying his bounce lately.
