Pre-Season Player of the Year:
LJ Cryer is the top 2020 prospect in the Greater Houston area, and is also a Top 5 player in the state of Texas. He can score the ball at all three levels, as well as get his teammates involved in the game. Plays great on-ball defense and is a great leader. LJ is committed to attend Baylor University next season and is the returning MVP from last season for the 19th District.
Team to Beat:
Morton Ranch Mavericks is the team to beat this year in district 19. They have two Nationally touted prospects in seniors LJ Cryer a 27.5 points per game scorer and Eddie Lampkin an Texas Christian University commit and was a double-double machine with 14.2 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game, plus a great cast around them in fellow senior running mates Westley Sellers and Adrian Caldwell. They have a new transfer student that gives them another presence down low. Last year they went 28-7 overall and 14-0 in district play. They look to go further than the 3rd round of the playoffs this year.
Biggest Threat:
Mayde Creek should be the second best team in the district and will be the threat of the district. Last season they finished 3rd place in the district with a 5-7 district record, and qualified for the playoffs were they fell in the first round and finished 21-15 overall. They will be led by senior guard Rommel Williams who has three NCAA D2 offers on the table right now. Physical point who can control the floor at which ever tempo he chooses to play at.
