In fact there were so many, that it’s impossible to mention all of them. In this article PH takes a look at some of the impact wings at the Top 250 Expo California.
Royce Samaniego 6’5 Vistamar 2020 – Good size playmaker. Samaniego sprinted the floor well. He did a good job of putting the ball on the ground and creating plays. He scored in a variety of ways. Samaniego got buckets in transition, off the bounce and on putbacks. What was so unique about him, was that he also showed the ability to create plays for teammates.
Zachary Davidson 6’8 Mater Dei Catholic 2023 – Davidson is all wing. Long, lean athletic floor runner. I was impressed by his patience and efficiency. Typically you expect young players to force the action. Davidson allowed the ball to find him, and then he dissected the defense. Knocked down both mid – range and 3’s. Good mechanics on his shot with a natural release. I had to triple check my sheet, just to confirm he wasn’t C/O 2020. Turns out he’s only a freshmen.
Geronimo Rubia De La Rosa 6’3 Brookside Christian 2021 – I have to see one of GRDLA’s games from last season. I can’t get over that state line. During the Expo I found out how this guys stuffs the stat sheet. Plays with relentless energy. De La Rosa was active all over the floor. He’s extremely fast, with both feet and hands. Several times he’d turn steals into instant offense. More of a scorer than a shooter, however he knocked down his share of shots when left open.
Trevan Martin 6’4 Santa Fe Christian 2021 – This dude just balled. Good overall offensive skill set, including solid handle, range out to 3 and the ability to create off the bounce. Martin was also a factor when finishing in transition. Good fluid athlete that runs the floor well. Martin was unarguable most of the day.
Melo Sanchez 6’4 Mater Dei Catholic 2021 – Melo found so many creative ways to score. Lead the camp in turning loose balls into buckets. He ran the floor well, and finished around the basket. High IQ player, that impacted his games in a variety of ways.
Andre Parris 6’3 Loyal 2020 – Perhaps one of the more undersized wings. Parris was one of the most athletic players at the Expo. He was dominant playing downhill in transition, and he showed the ability to knock down consistent mid range shots. He was also one of the better defenders. His strength and foot speed, made it difficult to get by him off the bounce.
Grant Tull 6’6 Gridley 2021 – I’m still thinking about the performance Tull put on. He’s so smooth. Looked like he was on an escalator and everyone else was on stairs. His jumpers wet, he has good size, and he’s a decent athlete. What impressed me most about him, was that he didn’t have to press at all. The ball found him and then he went to work. He’s deceptively quick. Because of the threat of his shot, defenders were forced to close to him hard. Tull would casually drive by and finish at the rim. Great size for the position Tull is a sleeper to keep a close eye on.
