Marshawn Robinson – Waukesha South – 2022:
Not many share Robinson’s style of play. His physicality attacking rebounds, missed shots and loose balls offers up a unique toughness at the guard spot. On top of that, Robinson showed an improved jumpshot. A visible hitch hampered his effectiveness on the perimeter this summer, but today he released with fluidity and less wasted motion.
Derrick Ousley – Milwaukee Hamilton – 2020:
Hamilton’s top scores departed this offseason, meaning the keys to the offense went up for grabs. If today carries any weight going forward, then Ousley has dibs on the lead role.
The wing emerged as a late-bloomer and lethal weapon with the ball. As the first half wound down, Ousley put the ball between his legs (somehow, without dribbling) and gathered into a step back jumper. In the second, he drove into the paint relentlessly, slipping through the defense for multiple and-one finishes.
If today’s bread crumbs become reality, the guard may arrive on the recruiting scene very soon.
Ja’Shawn Forester – Milwaukee Hamilton – 2021:
Forester turned a fastbreak poster and a head-turning individual scoring spurt into a mention in this article. The junior’s status will build off his absurd athleticism and highlight-potential. Though it took a bit to warm up, his paint savvy could also garner some outside attention.
Isaiah Hammond – Milwaukee School of Languages – 2021:
After only a few plays, Hammond staked his claim as a top prospect at the event. The sturdily built, nimble guard operates with ease in the paint, flashing an array of maneuvers and finishes in the lane. If he keeps his jumper at a consistent clip this year then he may rise in the rankings.
Damion Woods – Milwaukee School of Languages – 2022:
Woods’ second game unfolded as a stable showing of his potential. The lengthy sophomore shot with confidence despite his efficiency tapering off towards the end of the first half. As of now, his offensive skills lean in the right direction, and if I should make one takeaway from today’s performances it’s that Woods is a projected edition in the next rankings.
Rashad Kelly – Milwaukee Vincent – 2022:
Not many can dip their head and dribble 100 miles an hour into the defense the way Kelly does. Without excess flashiness or wasted moves, he dominates his opponents.
Today he rarely settled for jumpers, instead he repeatedly found the stripe and drew contact in the paint.
Armani Jones – Brown Deer – 2022:
As a transition defender, Jones flew from sideline to sideline, weaseling his hands in passing lanes for impressive steals. Offensively, especially on the perimeter, he is a smart and efficient player, and as a driver he can weave through defenders, striking me as a gifted talent.
Justin Steinike – Tosa West – 2020:
Steinike’s playstyle is predicated on pacing. He led fast breaks with his head up, dishing to outleting teammates and exploiting open lanes. He didn’t play major minutes, but showed poise as a senior prospect and a floor general for Tosa West next season.
